Holding out for something lighter than 2.5kg and higher than 1080p display. Options?

They're all generally the same Clevo laptop shell, so you're probably not going to find much lighter. At a certain point, you're sacrificing weight for cooling efficiency, and almost everyone prefers to get performance from their GPU, rather than having it be lighter.

I am surprised these 16" laptops are still rocking a 1920x1080 resolution though. Most 16" laptops are going UHD (2560x1600) and I much prefer the higher resolution. For example - https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lenovo-leg…

      Res is 1920 x 1200 isn't that WUXGA not 1080p.

      • You're right. I skimmed the specs section, saw FHD and my mind went to 1080p. I guess I chose the wrong conflicting spec.

  • Can't really fault it for the price except to carry the legion 5 is about $100 extra. Is the extra worth it?

    • No, because thats a 4050.

      • -1

Doesn't always work like that in laptop world. In this case the 4050 would be very very close if not equal. They both use the same die, the 4060 is just 20% extra cores/tcores etc. And because its laptop world 4050 or 4060 virtually means nothing if you dont know the TGP. The Acer's 4060 is 85w maximum compared to the 140w maximum of the 4050 is huge + the legion has a better CPU. The legion could easily be worth it here especially if you care about build quality.

Seen this too many times people buying a laptop because the gpu has a higher number but its got a 50w TGP and they end up giga unhappy

        • +1

The 85w 4060 TGP is basically equal to the 140w 4060 TGP. The 85w TGPs generally also have the +25w boost. Regardless, it's well known that "Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4050, 4060 and 4070 laptop GPUs stop performing better after 100W or so due to a voltage limit, you can get all the details in this video." So yeah… not sure what you're talking about when you say an 85w <-> 140w TGP is a huge difference.

These are very similar to the Predator Neo 16 at Harvey Norman, and to be honest are buttery smooth. Perform well, great for multi-tasking, support multiple monitors comfortably. I'm a fan at the price point they are. Would like them lighter, but that's not going to happen.

    This is a good deal

  • Does anyone know if these can be plugged into display docks or usb-c monitor ?
