TP-Link Tapo P100 Mini Smart Plug (4-Pack) $39 (via Price-Beat Button) + $3 Delivery ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys

301

The price on the page initially displays as $56 but if you click the Price Match button on the page, it displays $39. Unfortunately no click and collect available anywhere near me so I paid the $3 Australia Post tracked delivery. I think this may be an all time low price however unsure on this bit.

These are the non-energy monitoring ones and are not Matter-supported versions but still pretty good price at $10 a pop if you buy using 5% discounted gift cards (comes to $39.90 delivered)

I have roughly 7 around at home and so far none of them have failed for me, infact never missed a beat (Thankfully). I do acknowledge that a few people have reported failures so this is my way of making sure I have replacements at hand when the time comes.

Nice but if you want Matter compatibility then grab the P110M model off amazon

What are some of your use cases guys?

    • +2

I use similar devices to automate fishtank lighting and bedside lamps

    • +2

I use them to turn off stuff that only goes into standby mode (e.g. TV, etc.) so there is little power usage / less change of the psu's giving up, however I've found that the Kogan branded ones I have only lasted around 6 months before the solenoid dies so they stop switching off/on..

So you device stand by power is saved, but surely this plug also will consume some power all the time to be connected to internet; what am I missing?

        • +2

Yes it will consume some power, but not as much as the multiple devices connected through it (Tv/androind box/mini pc/playstation/tuner, etc).. Also as mentioned it saves the PSU's being powered on all of the time on the TV and other devices which potentially improves longevity.

Turn any non-smart plug in electrical device to smart basically. I use it on floor lamps, Pedestal fan, TV and soundbar outlet, Recliner sofa, etc. Have timers set to On at sunset for some lamps.

    • I’m using some of them around the house for automating some tasks, such as watering my garden (I’m planting a lot of vegetables), lighting and turning on the CO2 system for my planted tank, timing my oven, or turning the heaters on/off in different rooms.

Connecting them to the system of temperature and humidity sensors, I can automate the heaters and humidifiers if the levels drop to a certain level (like ~18-20 Celsius or 40-60% humidity), especially during the night.

This can turn on/off based on su rise/sunset, use it on my ev to only charge when free

    • Favourite use for it is turning on the coffee machine in the morning, so I don't need to wait for it to warm up for 5-10mins.

along with other people, I have had these specific model fail, and the TP-Link support was terrible - I would strongly suggest not getting these - check previous deals for info about peoples failure experiences.

Update for clarification - P100 and P110 have failed, newer P110M have been fine.

    • Yep deployed a few off these and found about 40%? go bad after a year. Hopefully the new P110M last, but I stopped buying the previous models, only P110M in the hopes it won't have the clicking issues that develop after certain time.

      • Sounds bad. The problem is only two main brands are available either TP-Link or Meross

The rest no longer in the market

Belkin wemo used to be good and reliable I got one 9 years ago still working. Quality products. Their software was bad but the hardware was fine

    • I am quite surprised. I have 8 at home since May-2023 excluding the 4 I ordered today. Literally not a single one has failed for me. May be I got lucky 🤞

Mine have been fine also. We must be running on cleaner electricity

Ive had multiple with the same point of failure, where they suddenly start clicking on and off. Doing a littrle research I found it was a common fault where the 10V 470UF capacitor fails. I went as far as replacing it myself with a better quality solid capacitor and they have been reliable ever since.

This ones an overseas model but its the same component

      • Do you have P110M version? wonder if they changed or fixed it

        • No, the older model.

Its when they are contsantly clicking on and off, that it is a capacitor fault.

          • @darkly: This must be common with most of these smart plugs regardless of brand. I had the same on/off clicking with 4 Meross plugs over time.

      • Wow how do you replace it yourself and where do you source the capacitor?

    • TP-Link smart plugs only have two year warranty.

I had a TP-Link power strip 2.5 years old. Normal use. Check online I believe chip and fuse was blown inside. Lots of people got the same issue model KP-303

They refuse to repair or replace it out of good will.

Never gonna buy anything from this brand ever again

  • Where is the price beat button?

    Great price
    Great plugs
Note that the matter version is out now

  • +2

    Damn, missed it

  • Do these work with tuya \ smart life app?

    • +1

      Nope.

      • Ahh god… I got a couple of these by accident, spent forever trying to work out why they wouldn't connect… Thinking it was like my older ones that did.

        • +1

Silver lining is that both Tuya and Tapo work with Google, Alexa, SmartThings and IFTTT

          • @bigbadboogieman: yeap, only reason i didn't return them… But it does mean one more app to keep on the phone incase i need to reconnect them or troubleshoot :(

  • Called GG to price beat and the bet they could was $45 pick up from the store.

    • Back in stock

      • Thanks..that saves me $3 and I don't have to drive to TGG!

  • +1

    Deal not expired

  • Do these work with Home Assistant? Want to get some things automated but not with Alexa or Google systems
