Still very expensive, but you can save $100 by buying on eBay from the EB Games store and using the code PLUS120
Must be an eBay Plus member (I assume)

Agreed but our crappy exchange rate is a big problem as well
$700 USD would have been $900 AUD a few years ago
Not really it's a bloody good console..
Once you play some of those games with RT you would appreciate it more. I never played fps mode I always played fidelity mode. But RT is even better with the pro

Ray tracing doesn't make a game more enjoyable for me. Especially not with the thought that I just paid $1100+ for a game console hanging over my head.

You're in the minority then. According to Mark Cerny himself: "PS5 players will choose Performance mode three quarters of the time". I'm in the three quarters that doesn't prioritise graphical fidelity over performance.
The only reason I’d even consider getting a PS5 Pro to replace my current PS5 would be to play GTA6. But given the poor sales of the Pro so far, there’s no guarantee Rockstar will prioritize optimizing the game for it, especially at launch. I’d rather just begin putting money aside for the PS6, which, judging by the usual gap between PlayStation consoles, is probably two years away.
Yeah you are probably right with me being minority.
Also about saving for a PS6.
I also think Cerny marketed the ps5 pro wrong. I think it's a ray tracing machine more than a faster ps5. Even though it does both. It's like going from a 6700xt to a 3080 . Generally faster frames but does ray tracing so much better.
It's most definitely a better machine. But perceived value is subjective if you already have a ps5. I traded my og ps5 with some games for this and ended up getting it with no out of pocket cost. I have zero regrets but I know others won't be as happy as I was.
I guess I just am highlighting the console may not be as bad as people have made it to be.. I was sceptical at first but as I mentioned below, the parts equivalent to build a PC would cost more.
Any trade in offers?
I still don't understand what this offers over the PS5.
that same question can be used for Iphones, Dysons Vacuums, textbook editions etc
So helpful. I do wonder how "what does the PS5 pro offer over the PS5?" applies to textbook editions exactly, but regardless, I'm inspired by your camaraderie
Might of been what i studied but Greys Anatomy ed 42 wasnt really any different to ed 41 id even say ed 14 wasnt too different either….i mean it isnt like the Anatomy of the Human body changes every year ….
The Ps5 is slightly fast and visually impressive but it isnt 'really' an upgrade worth the price if you have a PS5 it might both worth the price if you dont currently own a PS5
Higher frame rate and better visuals, I wont be buying as its too much for how little difference i would notice
Only in the main menu I bet…
If you don't have a console and both are rrp.
The ps5 pro is a better choice than the ps5 slim.
If ps5 slim is going for the sale prices we have seen this is a harder but.
Building a PC with similar specs as the pro would cost probably a fair bit more.
7800xt is around $700, 2tb gen4 SSD $220, 5700x $200 is already $1120 not including PSU, Ram, case or motherboard.
All the prices are actually lower than current market price as well.
Also I assure you the modes on ps5 for some games are incredible. Hogwarts RT mode is beautiful and a clear upgrade over ps5, as is FF7 rebirth as you can play 4k at 69 rather than 30. Previously 30fps had a significant downgrade to picture quality
The comments in the Reddit even mention that the patch hasn't happened yet.
I can't tell as the options are ps5 options only .. normally the pro has extra options to choose which are unique to pro consoles
PlayStation 5 Pro what equivalent GPU is inside? GTX4080?
LOL
4060.
I'd say a mobile version of the RX 7800 XT, rasterization performance of a desktop RX 7700 XT maybe but with RDNA4 Ray tracing features, something like that.
does anyone know if we can earn EB points/carrots if we buy through their ebay store ?
Yes, just send them a message via eBay with your EB email address and they will add them.
Still about $200-250 too expensive
Yeah but that’s mostly because of our crappy exchange rate (0.78 a few years ago vs 0.64 now, the rate difference adds $196 to the price)
They cost 120,000 Yen in Japan and around $820 USD including tax in the US, with current exchange rates $1,200/1,220 AUD. They are just overpriced it's got nothing to do with the exchange rates.
You just explained how it is caused by exchange rates
@zagadka: I see where I went wrong.
Our exchange rate with the US has gotten worse but on the other hand our dollar is around 25% better off with the Yen than it was when the PS5 launched and it's a Japanese company and they're manufactured in Japan and China. So don't see how they can justify the price.
Even if you are just going off the USD the PS4 pro was almost half the price and it came with a disc tray.
I remember when the PS3 came out, a mother was looking to buy one for her kids.
Mother: "It sounds great… How much is it?"
Staff: "Nine hundred and ninety-nine dollars"
Mother: "Thank you" and walked straight out
PS5 'Pro' made far worse for the fact it is not including a disc drive; a vertical stand ('Pro' - lol) and worthwhile exclusives.
(in contrast: the OG PS5 has a disc drive and a vertical stand included)
The PS3 at launch was expensive but was packed with tons of first time value - BC with PS1 & PS2; HD visuals; Blue Ray/ DVD/ CD music playback; Multi-media playback from thumb drives; HDMI output, HDD, free-online play, etc, etc (and tons of worthwhile exclusives from early on - MGS4, etc)
Not sure why a pro model doesn't come with disc drive / stand.
Because they are gradually weaning everyone off physical games. First disc drive was mandatory, then optional, now an extra add-on, next it will be gone.
Why would they want to pay to produce physical copies of games that then have to be distributed by freight, and can be sold on second-hand, when they can force everyone to pay obscene prices for digital copies that you don’t even own; you’re just paying a license fee to “access”.
The future of gaming is grim.
When that day comes (i.e no longer sold physically) - I suspect we will see a lot of peeps jail breaking and sailing the seas enmass. Same difference.
this is a valid point, and why they seem to be testing different models. Eg - Xbox game pass, PS Plus with the free catalogs. You can bet they keep metrics on all sorts of stuff, like hours played vs price paid / subscription tier etc.
The subscription model could be okay. I really just hate that everything is becoming so ethereal with streaming and downloads generally - the tangible aspect is going away. There's something sublime about getting your hands on the game case, admiring the box art etc. A big reason for the resurgence of vinyl for those into music.
The only reason i will get a ps5 is for gta 6. I know this is a hypothetical, but would the game work any different on a regular ps5 vs the pro? Everything i seem to read lately shows very minimal actual graphics/performance gains…
There's really no way to tell yet. GTA VI could launched borked to all heck. You probably have a little under a year until the releases, without delays of course. Hopefully there's a game or two before GTA that push the PS5P its limit for reference.
If rockstar indicate at all that the game will perform noticeably better and look better on the Pro then it will compel a lot of people to upgrade including me
The game will look better on a PS5 Pro (for example RDR2 ran in a higher resolution on the PS4 Pro than on the regular PS4). But it is likely to be only a marginal difference.
Anyone know when the eBay discount code ends? Thanks
Still a rip off.
