A supermarket that got BeBargained

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/12/12/us-lidl-christmas-…

Discount retailer Lidl faces a 200,000-euro ($260,000) Christmas dinner bill after an offer of chicken vol-au-vents and ice cream cake for the poor went viral.

The supermarket launched a Twitter campaign in Belgium on Monday, saying it would hand out five four-course Christmas dinners to food banks for each tweet on a hash tag.

Well, you can guess what happened next. :)

Lidl is one of Aldi's competitors in Europe.

  • Doesn't sound like that much for the publicity they are getting. Successful campaign.

Also, I'm sure that costing is full retail prices.

    • Yes, I think they should write it off as promotional costs, even though it was not their original intention.

    • Actually reading the article they decided to increase the amount well beyond the twitter count anyway, so this is pure marketting success, no loss to the business.

  • I could have sworn the title said Ozbargained before…was going to suggest EuroBargained instead.

    • The supermarket in question was in Belgium, country code BE. OZ was the old pre-ISO country code.
