Why aren't lotto deals allowed?

Why aren't lotto deals allowed?

Lotto tickets can be purchased by anyone in Australia over 18 from newsagents, shops etc.

Alcohol deals are allowed and they have the same age requirements.

An example deal would be this one… http://www.salotteries.com.au/Content.aspx?p=297

From 6.30am on Thursday 13 December to 7pm on Saturday 15 December, players who purchase a Saturday X Lotto 25-game Easi-Pick (valued at $16.10) for the December Megadraw (draw #3281) will receive a FREE 12-game Easi-Pick (valued at $7.75) for the same draw!

Lotteries are gambling. Gambling deals are not permitted. It's not an age thing.

From a bargainer perspective ,lotteries are simply throwing your money away even if they give you more free tickets. At the end of the day, the majority of people 99.99% lose so you're better off putting your money elsewhere. Probably the worst odds of all gambling products. If you truely want to risk your money gambling and make a modest return, just bet against GWS or the Suns in the AFL. It will probably only pay 1% a week but that's better than a bank and it doesn't get taxed.

I don't disagree, however some ozbargainers will buy tickets for the lotto draw anyway, and anything that gives extra tickets is a bonus.

You could argue that the deals where people buy stuff and never use (eg http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87550, many comments they purchased but didn't need it) it should not be posted by the same logic. they throw their money away and never use what is purchased.

Throw away money? You listed a 1 cent deal to support your case?…

Ozbargain is a community yes but it is not owned by the community. Respect the rules or don't use it. I for one don't want to start seeing 100 "deals" a day for poker sites or online betting sites

        • I do respect the rules… just querying why they are banned…

Also other deals where people have bought stuff and not used it are the various glitter eneloop battery deals http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81509

I only got one pack the last time these were on sale yonks ago, Can finally get them matching now! (even though i havnt opened the packet yet hahaha, damn ozb making me buy things i dont need!)

Because the mods have decided so. Is that not good enough a reason?

    • From a bargainer perspective ,lotteries are simply throwing your money away even if they give you more free tickets

Also, not disagreeing with you, but shouldn't the bargainer community decide if the deal is useful for them? If the deals get lots of + votes then they clearly are, but if the deals get no interest then so be it…

I can't quite see the justification for banning something that is legal and may be of interest to ozbargainers

      • Why don't you add a poll to this post and see what interest you get?

If you bet against GWS and Gold Coast everyweek you would have lost a lot.

For regular deals — if people don't like it or find no use of it, they will most likely just ignore and move on.

    Even with alcohol related deals.

Not so with gambling related offers as they do attract quite a bit of "discussions".

However as @greenpossum had expressed it, it's the decision from the moderators to ban gambling related deals. While it's a community website, we do get to decide a list of items that are not suitable here.

Gambling / lotto are also governed by different advertisement regulations. Same as tabacoo, which we prefer not to touch.

  • Discount %: $16.1/($16.1+$7.75) == 67.5%

Theoretically if SA Lotteries gives a return rate higher than 67.5%, and if you purchase a significant amount, you could make money.

Doubt SA Lotteries would let this happen, though.

  • Also, why do you have to pay agents commission when you buy online directly from Tattersall's?
    Surely they make enough money!

    I hate lotteries.

Glad they are out of OZ B, Go Scotty ,

however some ozbargainers will buy tickets for the lotto draw anyway, and anything that gives extra tickets is a bonus.

Putting Lottery deals on OZb will lead to more people buying them in effect more people wasting money. So no thanks and I don't want to see the community littered with lottery deals.

  • Second that. I know of only a handful of gambling deals that offer any real value, ie. the probablity of a real profit. Eg. large enough jackpots in tote bonus pools so there is a net profit to punters on the pool, and a free bet that has NO conditions (***fair). Let's leave them all out of OzBargain.
