$19 for 24 Bottles of So-Called 'Ginger Beer' or $5 for a 6 Pack

520

100% MADE IN AUSTRALIA

http://danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_710888/ol-bluey-alcoholi…

$19.60 for 24 bottles. Was $69. Or $4.90 for six pack. Was $20.

Note: this is not real 'Ginger Beer'.Ingredients listed are fruit wine, sugar, flavour and preservative 220, added to make it taste like Ginger Beer. But it tastes more like Sangria, to me. I like both Sangria and Ginger Beer, so that's fine. (Commonwealth-government Alcohol excise is cheaper for Wine)

4% Alcohol.

I bought 3 cases online and 1 case from Dan murphys Hornsby (Sydney)- none left there now! Very few physical Dan Murphys stores have any left, btw. Also at some Woolworths Liquors - but Gosford Woolworths Liquor (NSW Central Coast) has none left now.

You can also use all Free Delivery codes with this, if you buy at least a $2.70 Wine; as well as Cashback affiliates.

I'm a huge fan of this, regardless of how it is actually made :p

Cheers for the deal, will get a few more cases this evening.

EDIT - just clicked 'click and collect' for 4 cases…addicted. great 'ginger beer' for this fking st weather we are having in adelaide at the moment.

$4.75 for. 6 pack or $27 for a carton 6x6 packs of bundaberg ginger beer at golden circle factory outlet. Would go for this for taste over any others.

    • +4

      That's not Alcoholic, dude!

      • +8

If you want alcohol, try beer flavoured beer

        • +4

          that's my favourite!

        • +2

Ginger = a flavour. Have you had alcoholic Ginger Beer before? It's nothing like Bundaberg (or any other sugar filled soft drink).

Bluetongue do a true Ginger Beer. It's awesome. Refreshing and brilliant ice cold. I'm guessing this will be similar. I bought 2 cartons =)

        • +1 to the Bluetongue…I'm gathering (from the anecdotes) that this will be sweeter, more like Stones etc.

        • And Blueomgue is brewed in the sunny NSW CENTRAL COAST!

And sponsor Mainers FC in the A League.

        • +1

Bluetongue was awful - tasted like soap! Never again, but enjoy it if you can.

    preservative 220

How does Sulphur Dioxide affect my body?
Sulphur is associated with a range of food intolerance symptoms including; headaches, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), behavioural disturbances & skin rashes. But is best known for it’s harmful effects on asthmatics.

Sweet, I can get smashed & play up like a secondhand watch…then blame it on the preservatives! :p

    • +1

Correct. All wine has preservative 220.

      • Actually. Lots (probably most) of wine has preservative 220.

All of the large and many smaller bottleshops stock preservative free wine.

        • Youre right. I think Organic wine is also preservative free.

        • Organic wine is also preservative free.

nope, they're in the same section as Dan's, but not all organic ones are preservative free…

      • All wine does NOT have 220 in it. Cheaper wine often has it, but there are many types that don't, like Lindemans, De Bortoli and so on. I know as a family member has an intolerance to it so goes for wines that are basically just wine, with sulphites.

    • The grapes you buy from supermarkets are all treated with sulphur dioxide.

  • +8

this taste like shitz, bought 6-pack last time and still got some left, it's that bad.

  • +6

    Its good stuff

    • Agreed, shattered it's all gone though :(

  • Why would I want a beer without a soul?

  • +1

Good price. We paid $5.99 a few weeks ago at Dan Murphys near DFO Essendon.

  • How do you get free delivery? Code?

  • Got a 6 pack to try

  • +7

    Got two cases to try.

  • Got one case for $22.59 delivered, using a $2.80 red wine + free delivery code.

  • +5

This stuff is TERRIBLE. So bad I wanted to take it back. Even spending a $1 on this is too much! Seriously.

It's not ginger beer. You won't even taste ginger. It's wine cooler. Think bad West Coast Cooler (if you're old enough). Terrible taste, terrible aftertaste. It shouldn't be able to label itself as ginger beer.

    • +1

Agreed, I'm glad I didn't try it when it was new and expensive.

    • I have to agree. Not very gingery. Perhaps I would have liked it more if I wasn't expecting ginger.
I'm glad to hear that others like it though!

  • +1

Only 7 cases left. Website would let me order 7 just now, but not 8.

    Go get 'em!

    • ordered a case for click and collect (2 hr) , Melbourne CBD Dan Murph . Cheers

  • I bought two cases - is it seriously undrinkable?

  • Definately drinkable.

But agree with the Tastes like bad west coast cooler comment above!

  • Mixed opinions, glad I only bought a 6 pack

  • +1

The Rose River ginger beers are approximately ten billion times better than this swill and available in the same store.

Lick Pier, despite the stupid label, is arguably even better. And also available from Dans.

But neither is even close to just mixing Fever Tree ginger beer and a nice white rum, like Flor de Cana or Havana Club Anejo. Makes up for the inherent weakness of brewed ginger beers, too.

    • And a 'billion' times more expensive, too.

    • yeah the rose river stuff is amazing, but as okgo points out, stupidly expensive :~(

my mates and i home brew some stuff which is quite good, last batch had a mega ginger kick to it but at least it's not fruit wine :D

      • Love home made ginger beer! I made some last summer - couple bottles nearly exploded in the heat..

And then, when it came time to share with the kids, it had such a kick that I had to drink it all myself. We actually came to the conclusion that it'd fermented - nice little surprise. :)

This was a bargain at $30 for a carton, its even more of a bargain at $20. people expecting stones ginger beer on a coles brand diet soda water budget are just deluding themselves.

Seriously, a few of these at the end of a 38 degree Adelaide day go down easier than a wet frog down a leaking pipe.

    • +2

      Agree.

Definately you get what you pay for with this, and it's a bargain for alcohol!!

    • +1

Surprised it took this long for someone to mention Stones! Tempted to get some of this crap, but after all the comments I think I'll pass.

Still got some of that out-of-date cider in the fridge, can't bring myself to drink the last of that either. So bad.

  • +1

    Only 6 packs now available!

    Someone's bought all the Cases!

  • No cases left it seems? tried to put more than one six pack in cart and kept getting a page not found error, just ordered the one. Trying again now it seems like I can put another single one in my cart, could checkout seperately (am picking up) but will they honor it?

  • Oh yeah, make sure you check the expiry date (on the neck of the bottle). The ones I got had a very short best before date on them (1 week or so).

  • +1

Use Paypal to pay and enter code 'DANSPAL' to get free delivery.

    http://danmurphys.com.au/guides/paypal-content?utm_medium=Pa…

    • I used that code and it worked paying with WISH gift card

Just got a 6 pack of this and 4 pack of bourbon and cola

  • All out. :(

  • Still allowing me to add 2 cases to collect at Sunnybank Hills QLD.

  • +3

Note the best before date on this stuff was 6 December. Still ok to drink and sell but they should be letting you know that before you purchase.

    • Systms not designed to.

  • Requested quantity not available
We are sorry, but we are unable to fulfill your quantity request:

Not working for packs or cases.

  • +1

I bought some of this from Dan Murphy's when it was on sale for $30 - BE WARNED OF THE BEST BEFORE DATE, MINE WAS ABOUT 5 DAYS BEFORE EXPIRING.

Although it's still fine to drink, it might start going bad if you don't plan to drink it reasonably soon.

  • could only order 3 6packs online, from Kew (click & collect).
will be interesting to see what happens when I rock up later on to collect.

  • -3

Kirks ginger beer is half price at woollies this week, $4 for 10… If you want alcohol, just add a shot of vodka

  • not a bad price ,but realistically it's about all its worth considering the ingredients

    • btw only one left at the rowville (vic) dm's …

      • I managed to order 3 cases from there and just picked them up. Thanks for reminding me to check the store!

  • +1

Picked up my order fine, couldn't be bothered waiting for it to chill down.
I don't know what everyone's complaining about; taste OK to me, even half warm. Hot day helps I guess.

Kew reckon they've got heaps more, couldn't explain why i could only order 3 packs max, maybe if you want 4 you have to order by the case.

  • prices is back up :(

    • Still showing $19.60 for a case for me..

      Edit: With online-store set.

  • +1

Sold out online. "We are unable to fulfill your quantity request. Requested Quantity Not Available for Ol' Bluey Alcoholic Ginger Beer" when adding one pack to the cart.

    • Call them! worked with Kopparberg last time

  • +2

Bought a 6-pack for $4.90 (& added a bottle of my favourite cheap white wine to get free delivery) thanks OP :-) less than $10 delivered

I'll judge it for myself, you can't always rely on other people's taste or opinion :-P

  • +1

Bought 2 6-packs in Point Cook. Good stuff, unlike some cheap cider I got months ago thanks to ozbargain - still unfinished.

  • +2

Damn it this looks ozbargained. Its going to be goon again this Christmas.

    • I hear the classic goon of McWilliams Brown Muscat is a refreshing drop… ;)

      • Have yourselves a goony little Christmas.

  • Looks like some more stock was found over night just was able to order a case online

  • all cases are gone now. Was thinking of getting a few as chrisy presents!

  • Ordered two cases for pickup. Thanks!

  • -1

I have to say the Dan Murphys website is abysmal. Gives the wrong prices, the amount in stock in any given store is never correct. Hopeless, you'd think a major operation could do better.

  • anyone who ordered online had their order shipped yet? No email from them after the tax invoice yesterday.

    • Yes. Ordered Sunday, just got delivery Friday. 3 cases and a bottle of $2.70 wine!

    • I ordered on the 13th and got 2 emails; invoice & order summary. Late arvo on the 14th rec'd an sms advising: Your Dan Murphy's order has left the Fawkner store. Delivery is expected within 1-3 business days. A tracking email will be sent soon.

That's all for now. I think I had the Malvern store set during the order.

I don't know where that delivery truck is going because from Fawkner to my place is about 40 minutes…

  • Just cleaned out Seaford Vic. Tastes like shiz with very little to none of a gingery taste but on a hot day it would go down ok. Think cheap white wine and you wont be dissapointed.

  • had my 6 pack online order canceled due to no stock :(

    • Because I bought a cheap bottle of wine to get free shipping they had dispatched the wine already and said I could return it to sender but that sounds like more effort than it's worth for $3 - very frustrating.

  • +1

Got 2 x6 packs from Burwood store then went to Enfield where Store manager stated that he had to throw out all his stock as it was against policy to sell out of date stock. Cry Cry(expired on 12/12

  • My 2 cases were delivered today. First bottles are going down a treat. Thanks OP!!

  • Just had a call, cancelled my 6 pack order due to no stock :(

    • Ditto, but for a case.

  • was looking forward to trying it too

  • Got my 6pack delivered yesterday morning 5:30am, just waiting for the weather to warm up

  • +1

Just cracked open my first one and I like it! I'm fussy & have expensive taste when it comes to Scotch and Beer. But flavoured alcohol such as this, still goes down nicely. I think there is enough of a Ginger Flavour in it to warrant the branding.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginger_beer

"Ginger beer is a carbonated drink, that is flavored primarily with ginger and sweetened with sugar or artificial sweeteners."

Actually, it's delicious, refreshing, wish I had ordered a case!
