Catch Connect Failed to Activate after 6 Days

I ported my number to Catchconnect from boost 6 days ago.

First they messed up where it said activated but my boost was still working. Then after calling, boost said it's porting my number and then they stopped working.

Since then Catchconnect haven't been able to work out what's going on. Got email today that it was related to international minutes causing conflict, to which they disabled. So so not working.

Main Catch is since my SMS not working, I can't even port my number out to say Lebara. They said they waiting for confirmation for porting.

Just wondering if anyone has this experience? Anything they did to port number where SMS not working for old provider.

It sounds like you have yourself in a right pickle. Posting here is the best thing you can do about it.

Here's what Google Gemini has to say:

Ah, that's a frustrating situation, mate! Porting delays and issues can be a real pain, especially when they leave you without service. It sounds like you're stuck in a bit of a Catch-22 (pun intended 😉) with the SMS issue preventing you from porting out.

While I don't have access to specific details about your case or Catch Connect's internal processes, here are a few things you can try and some general advice based on common porting issues:

    1. Contact Catch Connect (again):

Escalate the issue: Explain the urgency of the situation and the impact it's having on you. Ask to speak to a supervisor or someone who can expedite the process.
Provide details: Provide them with all the relevant information, including your account number, porting request date, and any error messages or communication you've received.
Document everything: Keep records of all your interactions with Catch Connect, including dates, times, and names of representatives. This can be helpful if you need to escalate the issue further.

    2. Contact Boost Mobile:

Check the porting status: Confirm with Boost that the porting request was correctly submitted and that there are no outstanding issues on their end.
Request assistance: Ask Boost if they can assist in resolving the SMS issue or provide any information that might help Catch Connect complete the porting process.

    3. Consider alternative solutions:

Temporary number: If Catch Connect can't resolve the issue quickly, ask if they can provide you with a temporary number while they work on the porting problem. This will at least allow you to make and receive calls and SMS.
Port to a different provider: If Catch Connect is unable to activate your service or resolve the SMS issue, you might want to consider porting your number to a different provider that can complete the process successfully. Lebara is a good option, as you mentioned.

    4. Escalation (if necessary):

Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO): If you've exhausted all other options and are still unable to resolve the issue with Catch Connect, you can lodge a complaint with the TIO. They are an independent body that helps resolve telecommunications disputes.

    General advice:

Patience (I know, it's hard!): Porting issues can sometimes take time to resolve, unfortunately.
Persistence: Be polite but persistent in your communication with both Catch Connect and Boost.
Documentation: Keep detailed records of all your interactions and any information related to the porting process.

I hope this helps you navigate this frustrating situation, mate! It's definitely not ideal to be stuck without service, especially when you rely on your phone for communication. Keep me updated on your progress, and I'll do my best to offer further assistance if needed. 👍

    • Thanks :). Looks like this is not that uncommon. First time happening to me. Hence surprised.

Need to be mindful going forward around churning the plans annually

  • Nope, last few ports to/from Boost have taken about 5m.

    • Really? What was the issue in the end.
How did you manage that long?

      • 5 minutes

        • Ah. Yeah. This is unlucky. Did my partners next day and was all done in less than 2 hours

          • +1

@yjun355: The only time I've had an issue would have been 5+ years ago for a relative with a license number containing a letter. That took about 2 days to resolve

  • I've had a port just randomly fail before, it's a pain in the neck. No reason was given, just a lot of "yeah, we think we got it, just wait a few hours and call us back again).

I think it took 4-5 days for memory, wound up just grabbing a cheap prepaid sim after day one. But there wasn't any clear reason or fix, they just kept trying stuff until it worked.

    • Yeah good advice. I think that's what I'll have to do. I do have cheap Lebara card. I'll just have to activate that on a brand new number since the porting to it is not possible until SMS is active on old.

  • Update: in the end new Sim card worked. Took 10 days of limbo state. As tip don't bother with their live chat. Better to call.

Now have to go through ombudsman to get some compensation. I feel full refund if $120 seems too low. What do you guys think it's fair compensation?
