I've been keeping an eye out for the Nitecore NB10000 powerbank ever since I saw someone using the older Gen2 in Shenzen.

While looking for Black Friday deals today I noticed that the Gen3 is only AU$79.99. The price on Amazon US is a little over US$64.

It has two USB-C ports with pass-through charging.

The main selling point is that it is lightweight. I measured a weight of about 150 grams.

This could be a pricing error. I ordered and received it today.

Seems to be pretty standard price at camels. What's so good about it?

Main advantage is for ultralight hiking.

It has consistently been this price sold by MiratraCo on Amazon since it was released in July.

    $78.90 shipped here: https://ultralighthiker.com.au/products/nitecore-nb10000-lig…

    • It looks like grey import pricing until stock runs out and then back up to $100+.

  • I have a gen 1 that's still going strong, and it's great. The battery is small and super lightweight. Easily the smallest battery pack for size that I've owned

If you're in the market for a lightweight powerbank it's also worth considering the Klarus K5 which is the competitor to the Nitecore Carbo 10000.

The NB10000 in this deal has a plastic skeleton with carbon fibre side panels, the Carbo 10000 and Klarus K5 are unibody carbon fibre shells which should be tougher but 7 grams heavier.

There will probably be a Black Friday code/sale for the Klarus K5 at liteshop. I ordered one earlier today for a Christmas present.

Product pages with all the specs:
    - Gen2
    - Gen3

The main differences vs Gen2 for $1 more appear to be:

    • 2x USB-C instead of 1x USB-A and 1x USB-C
    • Rugged corners for better drop protection
    • Oddly lower energy rating, 5400mAh @ 5V 2A vs 6400mAh @ 5V 1A

Otherwise, they are both super lightweight and compact. I'm personally really happy with my Gen2, I paid $75 for it about 2 years ago and prefer having the USB-A option (without carrying an adapter) for better compatibility with things. You're paying a premium for the weight and size, if these are not a concern, there's much cheaper options for the same specs.

    • Oddly lower energy rating, 5400mAh @ 5V 2A vs 6400mAh @ 5V 1A

I wonder why it's so low. If the cells really are 10,000mAh, that's just 54% efficiency which is really, really low. Powerbanks should be around 70-85% efficient.

  • I have a gen 3! They are super light and small, even compared to a xiaomi mi ultra- which was approx 220grams.

There are drawbacks. This doesnt seem to do any form of PD. When plugged into a samsung ultra s23, it comes up as fast charging or 15w. So its slightly slower than ither ultra compacts that can do 18w.

Also the plastic skeleton mentioned elsewhere is more like tiny rubber stops on the corners. Makes it a bit better to handle.

The two usb cs work good imo. It comes with a c to a adapter.

One thing people hated on the gen 2 was it had a "travel lock" mode, which lf you activated while out stops you from being able to charge a phone - until its plugged into a charger. Which… would be pretty bad if you accidentally turned that on, and to do it is something like hold a button for 10 seconds so not that unfeasible.

Also side note, I went through the official stockists at first and emailed them. I noticed they only had the gen 2. They told me that not much had changed and I should just go for that one. Pretty crappy service!
