[PC, Steam] Free - Half-Life 2 (20th anniversary edition) @ Steam

8080

From now through the weekend (until November 18th at 10am Pacific) Half-Life 2 is free to own, so if you've never played before, grab it now and keep it forever.

  1. HALF-LIFE sends a shock through the game industry with its combination of pounding action and continuous, immersive storytelling. Valve's debut title wins more than 50 game-of-the-year awards on its way to being named "Best PC Game Ever" by PC Gamer, and launches a franchise with more than eight million retail units sold…

Episodes One and Two are in the box. Half-Life 2 now includes the complete Episode One and Episode Two expansions along with the base game. They’re accessible from the main menu, and you will automatically advance to the next expansion after completing each one.

Developers Commentary for Half-Life 2. While the Episodes have always had commentary tracks, the base game never did… until now. We got the team back to record three and a half hours of new behind-the-scenes commentary for Half-Life 2.

Integrated Steam Workshop support. Browse, install, and play user-created content for Half-Life 2 without ever leaving the game. Look for it in the Extras menu!

Bug fixes and new graphics options. Visual pops, missing sprites, and mismatched lighting introduced in updates over the years have been scrubbed away. And we've added some settings to push the visual fidelity of Half-Life 2 farther than was allowed in the original release.

      infinitely

  • The game is not bad, but not the super mega faultless game that it’s hyped to be.

Still free is good, gets a lot of more new fans fapping to Alyx lol

Do need to look at it through the context of what else was happening at the time. The physics stuff was pretty groundbreaking for the time, as was the character facial animation. That said, I actually always enjoyed HL1 more than HL2 in terms of gameplay.

It was an amazing year for FPS. In the space of 12 months or so we got HL2, FarCry and Doom 3. Each game was impressive in its own right. Include a few extra months and you can also put F.E.A.R on that release window.

      • I seem to remember my less than 2-year-old Geforce 4 struggling with Doom 3 at 1024x768 on high, even though the system requirements said it only needed a Geforce 3. I had to go out and get a FX5900 Ultra just for that one game lol.

A PC Game that's only 2 years older than OzBargain.
    And Both Birthdays in Nov.

Valve dropped the Half-Life 2: 20th Anniversary Documentary 7 hours ago to YT. 2 hrs plus run time. It's very interesting - the highs and low and detail of game development.

Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman. Rise and shine.

  • Damn such a good game, almost as good as the 9800XT's!

    • Tell me more about these free 9800xt's…

Haha I wish! Could sell you a couple though ;)

This game was released and bundled with the 9600XT and 9800XT though is what I meant!

  • Cheers

    What are your must-try mods?

  • Does this include native widescreen support? I seem to remember that when this first came out it only supported 4:3 monitors?

  • Use code "IMPULSE101" for free in game hardware.

    • "In game hardware" sounds like an oxymoron

  • Does anyone know why Gabe's e-mail address was "gaben" ? Aren't company e-mail addresses usually the surname followed by an initial, which would mean "newellg" or something similar?

No one seems to have mentioned this yet, but on the Half-Life 2: 20th Anniversary Update webpage, there is a mini-game that can be initiated by scrolling down to the bottom of the page, and clicking on the Gravity Gun … and do something with it.

This is a fun continuation of the mini-game that is present on the Half-Life: 25th Anniversary Update webpage, and can be initiated upon clicking the crowbar.

  • JUST GIVE ME EPISODE 3 YOU Bas#$%DS!!! :D
