How Does Nintendo Wii Remote Battery Situation Work

I just picked up a Nintendo Wii for kids.

I am confused around how charging works for the remote. It seems it just takes 2 AA batteries. So are you meant to just churn through them? I'm guessing that would last few weeks on average usage.

I recall with Xbox 360, it just had charging cable connected to the controller. So you don't have to worry about replacing AA batteries.

Just wondering if anyone knows what's the best and cost effective way to manage this

Eneloops, Ikea Ladda or another brand of rechargeable battery + a battery charger.

You can also buy a charging stand for Wii remotes, IIRC.

Get quality rechargeable. Make sure your kids know to never put them in the bin. Get a good charger, don't get the very cheapest Eneloop one, get a charger that boffins recommend like the more expensive Eneloop one. You could get some of those cheap battery holder clamshell things, get red ones for flat batteries and green ones for charged. Or just teach your kids to always put flat batteries on charge and don't mix them up.

You can get those battery packs but they are kind of garbage, better to teach your kids early the value of hoarding and using Eneloops. The Ikea ones are fine too, but the Eneloops are better made, the wrapping is stronger.

    • Thanks.

So whenever these go on sale next is a good buy?

      • Any low self discharge NiMH rechargeable battery that is made in Japan should be the same quality as Eneloops because they are all made in the same factory. There is only one such factory in Japan.

Sure, the xbox 360 had a recharge cable… but you still needed to BUY a rechargable battery with the bultin cover. Or normal rechargables.

100% soft-mod the wii and get a portable hdd

Best hack and saves trying to hunt for very old games

Side note, get House of the Dead: Overkill, but don't play it around the kids lol

      • Interesting, got to try this.

I just set up EmuVR with Time crisis and was planning HOTD next.

    • I did not understand the at all :)
