Xbox One S Won't Power up after Storm. How to Access 7 Years of Games Upgrades

Hi gamers, I think I know the answer but hopefully I am not fully informed.

My boy had been caning his Xbox for 7 years now and after the storm on Wednesday night I lost the router and the Xbox which was connected by Ethernet cable. Xbox powers up for about 5 seconds makes Xbox sound then shuts down.

Firstly…any ideas on what the issue could be and is it worth getting the Xbox looked at…hoping for a sub $200 repair. I understand it's just an old 2TB Xbox.

Secondly…he mainly plays Fortnite but plays COD, Foroza, Halo and various Star Wars games all on disc. Not hooked up to Xbox live. If this Xbox is unrepairable…are all the individual game upgrades like weapons and cars etc lost or are they synchronised with a Microsoft Xbox server to be accessed with new Xbox? If answer is no and only stored locally on hard drive is there a way to copy over to new Xbox.

Lastly…he is getting new gaming PC rig for Christmas (thus why prefer not to outlay heaps on newer Xbox x at this stage) is there any cross over with PC to Xbox? If games progress is synch on Microsoft Xbox servers can that be accessed via PC? If that makes sense…it is hard to be an expert in everything.

Thanks.

I had a similar issue with my Xbox series X about three months ago. I ended up taking it to EB games. They have a great repair program. They replaced the power supply and a CD drive for $150 when you take it to them, you put down a $50 deposit and then pay the rest once it’s picked up. If they are unable to repair it you get your money back the repairs normally take two weeks because they have to post the console to Queensland it was by far the cheapest option.

Xbox game saves are Saved on their Microsoft server so that shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m old and strictly a console player, but from what I understand only some games are cross platform.

Great thank you for your comments from one old guy to another🤣. I will take it to eb games, I am also in QLD so could be a bit quicker.

Answer to second question, none of the save data is really stored on the console itself. Regardless of if you have a subscription to Gamepass Ultimate/Core or not, it's still saved on Microsoft's servers.

Most games, if accessing them from the Xbox app on Windows, should have saved files carry over from console to PC. This doesn't really apply for most games on Steam.

  • Thank you.
