[NSW] Thawed Snow Crab $20/kg @ Woolworths Mascot

100

I love catching crabs … 🦀 but even better on discount, at your local Woolies.

Looks like Woolies are clearing out their Thawed ❄️ Snow Crabs @ $20/kg

Could be available other stores as it shows unavailable online

I grabbed about 600g, but there was plenty more left

Gonna add it into my mix seafood cream pasta dish 🤤

      Hello clone of jv

  • $20/kg is Cheap! albeit these are about $200/kg live…

  • Thanks OP. Looks like they boiled a face hugger…😅

  • any good? once bought some like this from the westfield fish mkt
but in the end had lots ice inside (10%)

after that, thawed, but the meat itself tasted of water (like a sponge)

    • The quality would be below live crabs.

Fairly salty, more bland compared to live mud crabs, firm and a bit on the rubbery side (as I cooked it slightly further in the pasta) but has a stronger taste than sand crab which would be more light and sweet. Perfect for my use case which was a filler for linguine seafood pasta - https://imgur.com/a/I9GTh7K.

I actually did a measurement after quick defrost and wash (wasn't fully thawed) there was quite a bit of ice and dropped about 50% in weight.

Took some of the crab claw meat and ate it which seemed average.

But at $20/kg couldn't complain, the meat you get for that amount is generous. Live Grade A mud crabs currently not in season and fetching almost $80-100+/kg.

I actually did a quick measurement as there appeared to be 10% ice just like you said (on the outside). Did a quick wash to defrost and clean. It dropped 50% in weight! From 600g when bought to 300g. Still plenty of meat though.
