Best Free Alternatives to Major Streaming Services in 2024

With subscription prices rising across Netflix, Disney+, and others, I’m looking for free streaming platforms that actually have good content. I know some have ads, but I’m okay with that if the selection is decent. Has anyone tried services like Tubi, Pluto TV, or Peacock's free tier?

Also, any recommendations for hidden gems on these platforms would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

Mod: Please do not suggest or link to illegal options.

      Go to the pub

That’s what I tell the wife when I come home at 3am stinking of beer… “I was just down the pub watching the F1 live… think of the money I am saving this family by not paying a subscription…”

Tubi with adblock is good. Only SD content though. I like that you don't even need an account.

Tubi with NordVPN for USA content is awesome. The catalogue is huge (Fox owned) with several live streaming channels. Tonnes of shows and films to watch. I can easily stream US content via ipad to my Sony TV. The US ads are not excessive.

Agree, US Tubi is great with sooo much more content than Aus, and I’m not bothered by their ads. Hope it will stay free 🙏🏻

        1. Get yourself a refurb mini PC; ~$100-$200
        2. Install Proxmox, Unraid, TrueNAS, NixOS… or something on it, depending on your level of proficiency; $0
        3. Add all your *arr's, point them at your NAS; $0
        4. Add Jellyfin, pointed at your NAS also; $0
        5. Profit

Use the NAS for storage, run your services on another machine :)

        1. Install Home Assistant
        2. Automate all the things
        3. Install Factorio and start automating that
        4. Realise that you're just watching the factory you've built run itself and that you are now redundant
        5. Realise that you've forgotten where you were headed with this list

    I love these threads…

Mods: don’t post about doing illegal things or link to illegal options…

Users: lol! You should pirate and here are all the options and the subreddits to find them…

Also, +1 for using Plex. It comes with heaps of free movies and free TV stations. I mean who doesn’t want free endless back to back to back episodes of COPS or Jerry Springer… I have heard there is also a berth for your galleon once you have returned from sailing.

    • +6

Maybe we'll get to see an episode of COPS on there where the cops are dragging OzBargainers out in handcuffs for illegal streaming.

"What is the charge? Streaming a series?!? A succulent Netflix series?!?"

    • Users: lol! You should pirate and here are all the options and the subreddits to find them…

It's not illegal to stream that content though 😉

SBS for me is almost good enough, there are a few good shows I bookmarked but not yet to watch…plus the Prime Video comes with your Amazon subscription..covering 90% of my streaming needs…

  • What’s the point in any workaround
When you spend half hour to select the movie that is suggested by the algorithm
Then if you are watching with family, good luck
Once I we started watching a grandpa movie, came to know the grandpa was so horny from the very start

So now I’ve left the Netflix kids to kids and just watch random travel vlogs on YouTube and just enjoy the add

Instead of watching tv, I keep myself busy cooking , cleaning and THAT SUNDAY MOTORCYCLE EXPEDITION

If you have to use a VPN to access what you want, you might as well become a pirate because you are going against their terms of service anyway.

My legal freebie go to's are

    SBS on demand
    ABC iview
Kanopy - available via your local library, they have some great shows and movies on there 👍
YouTube also has some great movies on there.
    And lastly Tubi

I don't use the commercial stations apps wayyy too many ads 😐

If I can't find anything on these (which is pretty rare there's loads of great shows and movies on these apps) I hang out with my mates (ahoy there).

Lots of great free legal content out there 👌

Tubi, it has some suprisingly good movies, tv shows and anime. Has ads inbedded but free is free.

    P.S ads aren't really bad

    • +1

True, and I like how it notifies you before an ad is about to play, so you don’t feel like it cuts abruptly.
