Maybe it was not worth it to include the scan. Why do you need to have scanner on it?
You can put things on the mat like something you printed, or a section of a poster, scraps of fabric. Then scan it, and then lay the cut lines precisely over the scan. The Brother ScanNCut does this and it's an extremely powerful feature. I've made things with it that would be impossible with a Cricut, like precisely cutting printed card, laminating it, then precisely cutting the laminate offset. I know Cricut has their thing where you print with registration marks for the machine to read, but that doesn't really compare.
I use a Siser Juliet and even with it's garbage software the registration marks work perfectly. I can very easily print, place, and cut perfect edge aligned stickers so you have no white background showing.
I suspect it's more of a use case issue. Not many people would utilise it, so it just adds to cost and complexity (and failure points for warranty etc).
Is there much everyday practical use to own one - like a 3D printer? I like to create my own print designs in Photoshop or for sometimes for friends (like personalised birthday cards or invites) but they typically don't require any intriguant cutting.
Cheaper at Officeworks $479 https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/cricut-mak…
it is a joke that Spotlight do pricematch and beat by 10%. went to one of the spotlight store and they said they couldn’t reach officeworks to physically confirm they are in stock and refused for the 10% less offer
Circuts still won't scan. Wonder if Brother have a patent on it.
