9800X3D Upgrade - Parts Check

I'm currently putting together a parts list to upgrade my 12600K/DDR4 to a 9800X3D. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the new parts I've chosen.

I'm looking at getting the Gigabyte B650M GAMING X AX Micro ATX AM5 Motherboard and the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler. I've already purchased Lexar Ares RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 from the deal posted yesterday, and I have the Lian Li DAN A3 mATX case.

If anyone has experience with these parts, or has any recommendations for alternatives it would be appreciated. I want a decent mobo but also don't want to spend too much as the CPU is already breaking my bank, I've read the MSI boards have long boot times with AMD, but from what I can find the Gigabyte is pretty decent for the price, and I have the same model but intel version in my current PC and is serving me well.

Full parts list (including existing hardware) is here:

Obvious a gaming build.

Thanks and have a great day! :)

Everything adds up. I don't think you will notice much of an upgrade in terms of FPS unless you are playing on 1080p. Going X3D makes 1% lows so much better though. Up to you if that's worth $1200.

Be mindful you will have to update the BIOS on the mobo. I see you chose one with Q-Flash plus, so you don't need an older cpu to do it, good choice.

    • Cheers, thanks.

Yeah it's the 1% lows I want to improve, but also CPU bound games like Space Marine 2, Dragons Dogma 2, SW Outlaws, even RDR2 - they all struggle to hit 120fps in busy scenarios, and I know it's not the 4080. And while it's fine to dip down to 90fps or so while I play on a VRR panel at my desk, I sometimes plug it into the TV which is 4k/120hz (not VRR) so for a lot of games, even with lowered settings and either 4k dlss balanced, or 1080p dlss quality, it just can't maintain a locked 120fps which means stutter.

So yeah, I figured with the performance this chip brings, it's a good opportunity to jump on an early upgrade!

    • My new 9800X3D wouldn't even boot with my new Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX V2, so I had to do the Q-flash plus BIOS update with USB using the Q-flash button on the back. Thankfully that worked.
