Vivo X100 Pro/Ultra Affected by Government IMEI Ban/Block?

I can get one from my friend in China for decent price but don't want to do without confirmation.

Are there any x100 pro/ultra owners here that can confirm whether their phone is affected by the ban? I will assume it won't work here unless people confirm otherwise. Have a broken beat up iPhone 7 so need a new one before end of year ideally.

Thanks in advance for responding.

I personally would not be buying any phone out of China (or any part of the world) until this 3G switch off debacle has been sorted out. It seems the general consensus is that if the phone was not earmarked for sale in Australia and there is no record or ID in the IMEI, then it may work initially until the system picked up that it is a non-market phone and blocks it.

Ironically, I have a Aus delivered Xiaomi RedMi 12 here that was knocked on the head by Telstra that I installed an Optus SIM in after the 3G Shutdown, and it worked for about 4 days and it too was knocked on the head (has since gone back for a refund).

I also have a HiSense A5C that was NEVER sold in Australia and is the Chinese domestic market model and for some reason it still works on a Telstra MVNO some 3 weeks post 3G shutdown. So make of that what you will…

    • best not to gamble $1000+ it seems.

      • $200, meh, give it a shot… $1000??? (fropanity) NO! You could literally update to a slightly used, almost new iPhone for those prices. I replaced my daily with a almost brand new, iPhone 14 Plus/Max/Big'un (not the Pro) for about $850 less than a year ago.

Try to check the imei in AMTA website.

Maybe get the imei from Youtube video (if available) or from the box there before purchasing.

I bought mine through WondaMobile shipped from HK. Checked on AMTA and it still works. Mine is the international version V2309 which costs an arm and a leg more than the chinese version. 100% worth getting the international version over the chinese version since certain android features don't work on the chinese version.

I think you'll be fine. No vivos have been reported as having been affected here:

Just a heads up that I recently got a chinese Vivo x200 pro and both my 5G Belong Sims are working just fine on the phone.

Thanks for the report. I'm going to China soon and wanted to buy the Vivo x200 pro mini. It seems like being on the Telstra network is safer than being on the Optus or Vodafone.

    • Nice, which storage version did you get? I read in a shop a particular a
16/1TB model with sattelite comms doesn't work abroad, but I'm also reading that phones without SOS emergency features are being blocked here?

      • I got the 16gb ram 1tb storage model. I switched both sims to optus and still no issues.

        • How's the camera?

Did you get a good price?

          • +1

@Caped Baldy: Best camera ever. I've used vivo x80 pro, x90 pro plus, huawei p60 pro in the last 2 years and the x200 pro is the best out of all of them. In fact I only use vivo x phones for holidays every year.

Yeah good price. Like 1079 aud out something after exchange rate

            • @gimmebubbletea: I watched a video on best smartphones of 2024 and vivo x200 pro was very very highly regardly.

Made me kinda wanna get one haha

Yeah good price. Like 1079 aud out something after exchange rate

Do you have the link? That is a lot cheaper than my research for x200 pro, they were all around ~$1500-1700

              • @CodeXD: I'm keen for the link too. Sounds like it might be the Chinese version which is cheaper than the international.

                • +1

@Caped Baldy: all the Vivo x200 pro you find on ebay etc. are the Chinese version too. They've been added a ridiculous mark-up for the convenience of buying in English.

                  • @gimmebubbletea: Thanks. Sigh, I'd rather the convenience of native English support. I might wait for a good price on the international version or get another OPPO in a year's time.

@CodeXD: Got it from an official vivo retail shop in shanghai and the price was reduced further because we got the 10% Chinese trs when we came back.

This is a link to a taobao listing that has the 16gb ram 1tb storage variant for $1200 aud. Taobao let's you ship it to an address in China or directly via air freight to Australia. Use Google translate or Tap Translate if you're using Android.

                • @gimmebubbletea: Ah gotcha. Knew there was a catch! haha

                  • +1

@CodeXD: Buying from Taobao isn't that difficult. It's the same process as Aliexpress, except everything is in chinese. You can have massive savings buying directly from chinese stores on Taobao compared to anywhere else, including Aliexpress and Temu (where all the products have an additional mark-up hence the $1500-1700 prices for Vivo x200 Pro).

Just gotta use a translate app.

I got the x200 pro mini from China and can confirm that it works on Boost(Telstra), Felix(Vodafone) and Optus.
