AliExpress Delivered to Different Address Scam

Got slightly overexcited over some of the deals on aliexpress and bought a radio. It was only about $30 cheaper, and more with coupons. I was a little apprehensive but the seller marked it as sent very quickly. Usually when ive had problems they say the item is not in stock and I knew that was a possibility.

I kept checking tracking, it was sent with fedex and was moving very fast. Then last night it shows as delivered, to a completely differtrent state, at first thought a different country as I'd never heard of ACACIA RIDGE AU.

Seller won't reply, and now I see countless new feedback saying the same thing. Its also hard to get money back, as aliexpress give only the option to show screenshots, not any text. The parcel should have been under about 300g, but this one is 3.4kg.

The scam appears to be from reading online, relying on the fact people forget about what they buy, and it will time out and hard to do anything about. Aliexpress seems to side with sellers in this case and they show fake information. Sellers can offer a resolution, and you can accidentally click accept, and its for less money, so can see why this would be worthwile.

Has anyone got any experience with cases like this and fighting it? Its the first time, ive had a few items arrive a little damaged, or wrong item but never sent to a wrong address and that was cheap items. I hope if it fails with aliexpress, I still have credit card company, and paypal, and found the card company to be good. Ive copied all evidence I could.

Its a pity because Aliexpress is a great site, just has so many drawbacks, which is making me wonder about ordering again. Ive been buying since 2013 with few issues.

AliExpress and Temu. I wouldn't trust either.

I don't trust them but still use them, just like Windows :)

How you paid? Paypal, credit card? Just ask for refund.

    • Paypal and debit mastercard. But I heard its better to try and process a dispute via aliexpress so trying that first.

      • -1

I would do that before a forum post :)

the seller might have given you the wrong tracking number. you can take a screenshot of the tracking, the link to the tracking, and open a dispute saying it is delivered but to the wrong address. i doubt any seller is going to send you a 3.4kg package instead of a 300g package …

    • The feedback has about 50 in the last day saying the same thing, had no feedback before.

        had no feedback before

Not a red flag at all I suppose?

FWIW I never had any issues getting refunds from Aliexpress, but Temu I'd just stay away from, plus they only seem to sell cheap garbage.

don't at any stage click on the "confirmed received" button …

  • probably not related to this, but i recently had two orders which deliver to wrong addresses. one was a consolidated package containing multiple orders, so probably nothing to do with the sellers. i think they re-label them locally and they had the street name right but different suburb and state. i opened a dispute and provided tracking evidence and got my money back. the local couriers even kindly provided a proof of delivery photo showing the wrong address on the label.

    • Yeah that can happen but not in this case as the feedback reflects the same problem. Seller has also put store into vacation mode so cant contact them or see feedback easily.

    Start a dispute.

I've had one or two in the past and the process wasn't difficult at the time. Both times, they ruled in my favor.

  • Same seller had items like 16TB hard drive from seagate, for $57. At the time never saw this. The item I got was not an unbelievable price, just a worthwhile discount.

I've purchased 300+ items from Aliexpress. Had this happen once and got my money back fairly easily with a dispute.

its a very common scam and I have experienced as well. But just raising a dispute via aliexpress and waiting for a week got the full refund.
Just note that under no circumstance accept a partial refund from the seller. Wait for aliexpress to intervene and refund you.

Only buy from sellers with good ratings and feedback

What is this amazing concept you speak of?

    • Allegedly that's not exciting enough…

    • I usually do, but that doesnt mean you will have no issues.

      • Got a link to the item you purchased?

        • The seller is https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1104158191 Starlink Trade store. But seems like they have set it to vacation mode. It looks very suspicious now $57 for a 16TB seagate drive too.

@drspy00: Ahh - looks like a new seller.

I'm not sure how feedback is calculated with the 100% showing but pretty much all the feedback I can see(without deleting the overlay) mentions postage related scams.

Also, googling the seller name takes you to a Reddit thread listing them as a scam and lists potentially related sellers.

            • @ihfree: Yes it did not have any feedback when the order was made, I would not have been that silly.

              • +1

@drspy00: New sellers are extremely risky especially once combined with many under priced items

      • +2

Yes, you can never prevent risks, it's about reducing risk. Bad ratings/feedback (or lack of) means higher chance.

Seems like the store was created 20th Sep 2024. I doubt the sellers will come back from 'vacation'.

    had this happen recently
sent a screenshot of writing explaining what happened
    all sided with seller initially
disputed the resolution by saying in another text screenshot that I will do a chargeback if you side with the seller after what I explained
ended up resolved in my favour with a refund

It seems crazy if they side with the seller, there are about 20 other people with similar issue so not a mistake, and they closed their store too.

  • here is the feedback, but hard to see as they have set it as on vacation mode https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1104158191/pages/feedback.h…

Aliexpress has already issued a refund, its on its way! Seems the store is shut down and maybe they listened to the other reports.

    • Decent outcome!

      • It is, but probably because they had many complaints. The thing that annoys me is you never get the coupons or coins you use back and its wasted time. Temu seem to have better customer service, got 2 x 20% off coupons last week, aswell as $10 in credit for slightly delayed orders. Takes time to calculate the best coupon to use, and can't just rebuy when there were great promotions at the time.

I agree with you there. When I buy something I don't want my money back, I want my item.

A few years ago, I purchased a small item (< $20) from AE to be delivered to the Gold Coast. I received a tracking number when it was shipped. However, it was delivered to an address in France! I opened a dispute with AE, but was informed as the parcel delivery was confirmed at the French address, a refund would not be given. I contacted my bank & after providing screenshot evidence for non receipt of the item, the purchase price was charged back to my account.
