just got back from Seoul/Sth Korea, jetstar had free return or fly a friend for free… what ever one it was. $600 return from brisbane total which I thought was alright.
Seoul is a mega city and once you gorge on Chicken&beer, and Korean BBQ i found it hard to find attractions or touristy things to do. Temples/palaces are same same personally, A trip to the DMZ seemed like a tourist trap in its self, Busan was nice on the coast and Jeju was ok, but I still felt you really needed to work hard to find something to do for the day.
Prices were close to Aus for most things, some being cheaper (public transport, BBQ), other being more $$ (2 sim cards for 2 weeks at the airport being > $50au each)

Your milage may vary and depending on your background you may love it, but I found Japan/Thailand/Vietnam/Philippines better for a SE Asian holiday.

    • I got back from South Korea two weeks ago and felt guilty that I thought the exact same thing as you!
We travelled around for a fair bit of the holiday (Jeju, Seoraksan National Park) and had 2 and a half days in Seoul at the end, and I have to say that it was tricky to find things to do in the city. Things were so far apart too. When we did research in what we wanted to do, it took a minimum of a 30-minute metro ride (even longer by taxi thanks to traffic) to get to. This adds up over a day.

I don't want to sound like I am trashing an entire country, but I agree that Japan/Thailand/Vietnam would make for a more interesting and exciting holiday.

  • Need to know someone in Korea to get best experiences.
