Original Coupon Deal
Nice meter i bought a couple of weeks ago for around $55 and I thought that was a good deal. The clampeter is awesome for the price, its USB c rechargeable and measure both ac and dc current with the clamp . Lowest iv ever seen it.
The jaw action on this one is awesome and really wide, its like a cute little crab 🦀🦀

I removed the new user thing in the title and put price using just coupon.

  • Im not new user and i get it for $38 at checkout using the coupon code. I didn't add the new user thing to the title. @richardL

edit: My bad I have a $7 bonus in my account

    • Thanks for confirming; deal has been updated.

  • Great find. I love my dc clamp meter. I wonder how i ever did without one. So handy.

  • Does it play Thunderstruck?

    • I think the c model speaks to you in chinese, you might be thunderstruck by that …

Make sure these aren't an AC clamp meter only (DC requires the probes in circuit).

  • +1

Has anyone seen a clamp meter than can report readings to the network? Looking for something to monitor PV production on the inverter.

Have a look at the Shelly's, wifi and both 1 phase and 3 phase available and Aus standards certified

      • Yes, this.
I only have single phase so 1 sensor measures grid in/out, 1 does solar and 1 does load. Home assistant calculates the hot water booster consumption.

        • Which Shelly do you use for this?

      • Thanks, that does look good, but it's very expensive! I feel like I'd be better off with an RPi or something.

        • +2

Yes, there are plenty of RPi projects using CT clamps which will work out cheaper.

I went with shelly for quick and simple deployment. Plus it has Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM).

For my use case, spending the money was better value than spending the time.

    • As in a hand-held multimeter like this, it a permanent unit? Google for a DC CT data logger and I'm sure there would be options.

  • What are some uses of this device? Is it like a monitored power plug that shows energy consumption?

    • +1

Its a multimeter but you can measure current without opening up the wire and putting it in series you just put the clamp around it and it measures induced current (for ac) and magnetic/ electric fields for dc current.

  • +1

Can you actually use it like in the picture. Without isolating either the neutral or live wires?

    • Yeah strange pic as that wouldn’t work if both live and neutral were contained.

    • No you can't, it confused me when i purchased it and made a fool of myself the first time i was tring to use it (threw lenz law out the window), apaprenrly there are a couple which can but they are not as accurate (+-5%).

      • +2

Not sure any could…..if both wires were in between the clamp would cancel each other out.

        • I saw one where you select the neutral live config of the cable (location in the wire) and place it in certain orientation and it measures it, maybe through some leakage magnetic fields which dont get cancelled.

          • @BananaMan007: If possible, perhaps post a link here if you find one as interested to see how it works.

            • +2

@Borg: Megger MMC850 Clampmeter , that ones pretty exy hopefully there is cheaper options

              • +1

@BananaMan007: Nice, thanks for that…….very interesting. Now I want one but for a few hundred less :-)

  • What sets this AC/DC current clamp meter apart from other offerings for a similar price that aren't on sale (AstroAI Digital Clamp Meter on Amazon, for example)?

    • +1

its got a good screen, auto mode and range, its rechargeable, its smaller and its got bigger clamp jaw

      • Thank you!

  • +1

idk why i bought this, another tool for the tool box i suppose.

    • ……..taking up space along with all the other OZB unused things. All good though as in time there'll be a good deal on larger tool boxes:-)
