[PC, Steam] XCOM 2 $2.99 ($2.54 with Humble Choice) @ Humble Bundle

610

XCOM 2 is the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown , the 2012 award-winning strategy game of the year.

Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM , the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now, in XCOM 2 , the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, and facing impossible odds, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to ignite a global resistance, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

    Great game

Brilliant game with massive replay value.

I've played this game a ridiculous amount of time. Introduced a heap of other turn based games to me as well. Highly recommend it.

What are other turn based game that you would recommend similar to xcom?

        • +1

          Mutant Year Zero
          Phoenix Point
          Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus
          Final Fantasy Tactics
          Hard West

        • I highly recommend tactical breach wizards. It's quite a different flavour to xcom, but very well done. It's more akin to a turn based tactical puzzles with very broken (in a good way) abilities. I thoroughly enjoyed the comedy aspect but I suspect it may put others off.

            @Ezuku: Amazing game and recommendation.
Was so much fun to play through.
Would also like to highly recommend Tactical Breach Wizards.

Other turn-based tactical RPGs I've enjoyed in the last 12 months:
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters
            Tactics Ogre: Reborn
            Triangle Strategy
            Wildermyth
            The Last Spell
            Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp
            Front Mission 1st: Remake

I haven't gotten around to playing it myself but Shogun Showdown has been constantly recommended to me by friends.
I'm a big fan of the Metal Slug series and they just released a new turn-based tactics game that I'm keen to try out.

Older titles still worth looking at:
            Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Into the Breach (This is available on mobile as well)
            Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
            Shadowrun Trilogy
Jeanne D'Arc (Would likely need an emulator for this unless you have a PSP laying around and don't mind picking a copy off eBay)
Final Fantasy Tactics (Probably one of my favourite games of all time and what got me hooked on the "Tactics" genre)

@stenchlord: Thank everyone will check some of them out.

              Few lists that i enjoyed
Brigandine - (high replayability using different kingdoms).
              Front mission 1-4

@stenchlord: I'm currently playing samurai showdown. It's pretty great, but not really the same genre. It feels more like a slay the spire type roguelike but without the deckbuilding. Specifically you get and upgrade tiles which grant you actions and are always available but have cooldowns. Linear positioning along a line is very important.

Bit off topic, but cobalt core is another sts roguelike with ships I also enjoyed a lot. It does get a bit repetitive. Not turn based technically but plays like it, but naturally ftl is a must play. First (and best) game from the people who made itb.

              • @Ezuku: Thanks for that. Still sounds pretty fun so looking forward to giving it a go.

@stenchlord: Jeanne D'arc was amazing if you want a shocking Wikipedia search look up Gilles De Rais.

        • Check out Gears Tactics.

Bit late to this comment, but ones that I have found that scratch that Xcom 2 itch:
          Jagged Alliance 3
          Gears Tactics
          Wildermyth
          Wartales

Also note that the collection which is xcom2 and all dlc is $11.55 and the ultimate collection which is all three games plus dlc is $28.72 on steam.

    • I also see the War of the Chosen DLC is on sale on steam for $5.49 currently.. so if you only wanted the base game and WOTC, you could do it for $2.99 plus $5.49 = $8.48 (or add the $3 for the other 4 DLCs through the Collection option, which I personally did)

  • Fantastic game, need the DLC but all accounts though.

  • Excellent game!

Treated myself and got the collection.
