  • Hopfully C755 gets a sale 🤞

    • +3

Already did last time a few weeks back with the HN and JB discount?

      • would have picked one up during that sale too but didn't have my gift cards in order.

      • +1

Yeah was thinking it would go lower then $3837 + 10% Back HN GC on black friday

    • what's your reasoning for going for the 755 instead of the 855?

  • +11

    waiting for 98" C855 deal

    • What are the main differences between the two?

EDIT: Just noticed someone posted a comparison table below !👍

  • +7

You should add that it's free delivery and wall mount installation if you are within 30km of a good guys store! Crazy value!

    • Do they supply wall mount also?

      • +3

no, you have to buy separately

        1. A wallmount that is suitable to fit a 98" or above must be purchased separately.

Unlike smaller screens of C655 range they've put 144Hz refresh rate on 98 screen. Very Nice. One of the biggest positives of this TV at this price point.

At 98 inches, FALD or mini led is an absolute minimum.

      • +1

Came here to write this, it would be an awful experience in anything but a bright sunlit room.

      • Is this related to the viewing angle limitations of QLED on such a large screen?
Is it really a reason not to purchase? Just asking out of curiosity

        • Will look washed out and light areas will bloom horribly in dim light.

          • -1

@Kanjus: whats your real life experience or do you just look at stats

            • @adam149: 85 inch 845 mini led from last year.
Seen plenty of terrible qled panels too
Also had sony fald for 5 years.

Note MediaTek Pentonic 1000/700 TVs (this generation of TCL TVs are all Pentonic 700) comes with 2x HDMI 2.1 ports only. Not all four ports are HDMI 2.1 FRL (@48Gbps).

Currently only Samsung and LG (who uses their own processors) have TVs with 4x HDMI 2.1 ports.

Though TCL, for years, to be the only mainstream manufacturers who binds eARC to a non-HDMI 2.1 port so you don't waste a nice high-speed port on soundbars. Others are only starting to pick up this nice feature on their 2024 line-ups.

      • is HDMI 2.1 mainly used for gaming consoles or anything else that needs this?

        • PS5 and XSX, and higher-end PC gaming are the most common use cases. The biggest benefit is the introduction of ALLM and VRR.

Certain 4K HFR or 8K set-top boxes may be benefited as well. Though common 4K HDR + lossless audio doesn't need HDMI 2.1 FRL to function.

    • Looks like they are using the up to date Mediatek CPU with 3GB RAM on the 98" model. Nice

Everytime I see TCL branded TV leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Had a run-in with their warranty team and imagine how that went.

    • +5

What was it like? You know I use to be against these Chinese branded TV's, but the value is there. Also I have heard bad stories coming from Samsung and Sony too. I feel like TV's per se in the warranty claim aspect is very poor across the board. I wonder if there's any brands that have a good after sales care.

      • I've had good warranty experience with LG Tvs.

        • I recently had a good warranty experience with LG. Almost 2 year old LG had a stain (not that kind of stain, and not burn in) on my C2 42” and they replaced the panel for free.

Good warranty experience with Samsung on a >3 year old 75” TU8000 a year or so ago. Main board died and they replaced that free of charge. Referenced ACL ‘fit for purpose’ in that hardware support claim without being an arse about it.

in the 2 weeks it took tcl to get back to me on a brand new 75 mini led a year or so ago. jb hifi had taken the tv back and id paid the extra for an oled and had that installed.

    • +4

Why didn't you go through the store?

    • +1

Pros and cons I guess… I was disgusted with my experiences with samsung's 1 year warranty, with 1 year being the industry norm.
Now I'll only ever go with the 3 year warranty from a select few manufacturers like TCL.
I've bought quite a few TCls since my samsung experience, but haven't ever had to deal with warranty issues.
Could you give any more detail on your TCL problems?

    • it shouldn't matter with the ACL, deal with the retailer you bought it from. Mind you I did deal with Google for a dodgy Pixel 6 that I had rather than JB HiFi… but its the law.

    • please post the entire story
and also if you threaten ACL?

I think some companies might fear/comply with ACL than others

  • TCL TV's were much cheaper only weeks ago?

    • Smaller TVs (85" and lower) from TCL were on sale almost right after their release. But bigger ones with discounts are a bit hard to come by.

I picked up the 98" C745 last year on Cyber Monday for out of pocket $3,302, total price $3,589 with 8% ($287) cash back. It has been a solid purchase with 5 year warranty.

    • Did you purchase warranty

      • +2

sounds like a better deal than this, specially a year ago

  • +3

The 55" C655 is also on special for $625 via price beat. I need a new TV for the bedroom and this is the right price point, so guessing this one will be reasonable? The C755 offer a week or so ago was $797 for the 55" - I doubt this would go much lower in black Friday deals, but will the C655 go lower?

Good lord 98". How big are everyone's living rooms.

    • +4

This one is a bit too small but it'll make do. Will use the 120" projector for proper viewing

    • You don't need a big living room for a 98" TV. Something like 3.5m viewing distance would be perfect.

I recently bought an 85" TV, viewing distance 3.5m, and honestly could definitely go up to a 98".

      • Mine will be roughly 4.5mtr away and will replace a 58" plasma. Hopefully it's big enough.

  • 98 ! 🤤

  • Anyone know the distance between the feet? Need a 98” at some point. Think I have to have a centre stand though.

    • +1

      TCL 98C655: 1740 mm (174 cm or approximately 68.5 inches) - source

      • Thanks need to measure my tv cabinet

  • Still too small.. A decent 4k projector with a 150inch screen is the way to go :)

    • what value for money projector do you recommended?

also you project it onto the wall or some white plastic sheet?

      • I've been thinking of a cheapy one and have been watching YouTube videos. The Hook Up has excellent reviews and comparisons.

There's a new brand called Valerion which has some next level contrast levels.

There are some projectors which detect the wall colour and adjust the output image to correct for the wall. You will through the nose though.

      • I have a Big W Eko Full hd projector. Fine for watching at night and excellent for the sub $200 price. Project onto a white painted plaster wall.
Watchable during the day with blackout blinds or curtains.

  • How far back would I need to be to use two of these for my PC?

  • Need to find a suitable tilt wall mount so I can access the ports easily. Any recommendations?

  • Does this tick all the 4K compatibility boxes for PS5/XSX?
