looking at portable monitor options as i might have to do a bit of work on the go soon, and came across this.
seems like a decent option to accompany a macbook or any high resolution p3 screen, not too sure about the matte surface but it seems almost all portable screens are matte

surprised to see the $100 off coupon on amazon as black friday is still a few weeks away, hoping to see more discount towards the end of the month but could be a good deal for people who needs one now

$205ish ..lower screen resolution but I think 4k on such a small screen is overkill.

    • 4K is great for MACs though as you can run them at 2560x1440 scaled and they look nice and sharp.

I've been watching this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175871224282 Think it would pair well with wife's MacBook Air M2 to provide more real estate for photo work on the go.

The 17.3" 4K is a great productivity monitor, I've been using it since the start of the year. It went down as low as $293.99 back in August 2024 on Amazon:

(it doesn't show as that low in 3camels, because there was an extra discount checkbox that had to be applied to get that price at checkout)

Hopefully you can get a decent discount during Black Friday sales.

Extra discount is what I'm holding out for. I think the 17.3" is probably the largest I'd consider as truly portable and even then I think it weighs over 1Kg. I would prefer to buy from Amazon if possible as returns are so much easier.

        • that's a steal for under $300, and a glossy screen too! how do you like it so far? being 17" does it still fit into your backpack laptop pouch?

@blue-banana: It's definitely a matte screen, not glossy — I've never come across a glossy screen on anything other than OLED portable monitors.

17.3" is only a little bigger than a 16" laptop so it should theoretically fit most bags that can fit such laptops, assuming they have sized it generously with a bit of extra space in the compartment. Having said that, I wouldn't want to commute with this regularly, it weighs about 850g but if you're also carrying a laptop then it feels like you're carrying two laptops, the weight does add up.

Also I find the 4K resolution isn't necessary, at this screen size a 2.5K (2560x1440 or 2560x1600) resolution is perfectly great. On macOS you can use tools like BetterDisplay to make non-standard resolutions like 2.5K work for HiDPI, and everything still looks razor sharp and "Retina" quality. I also own an 18" 2.5K display 144Hz from UPERFECT and it's brilliant for both gaming and productivity.

yes exactly my thoughts, i'm looking for a screen that doesn't look too bad next to a mbp in terms of sharpness and brightness. the only desktop monitors that looks good next to it (outside of apple's own) are probably the LG ultrafines, so i had a look at the LG gram portable monitor, but that's only 2.5k and 350nit

My only concern is with all the 100 p3 <1 delta e claim would the panel be actually calibrated well enough for semi professional/enthusiast use case where you need that colour accuracy because finding it hard to trust the marketing on amazon to say the least. Many big brands cant do calibration on laptops well enough let alone well, eh, Intehill?

Otherwise looking great price for a seemly solidly (more so than other portable monitors) built 4k screen.

    • Yeah I'm pretty skeptical about that colour accuracy claim, at least out-of-the-box. I think you'd still need to do manual calibration yourself with a colorimeter to achieve those kinds of ideal results.
