Yeah, it sucks balls, but it's close to the cheapest it's been.
I was contemplating spending an extra 300ish and get another XBOX as it feels wrong to buy 2TB for 300+ but I finally bit the bullet at this price point :(.
MS forgot they are in last place.
Grow up.
dont be like that, i love my Zune
The interface is CFastExpress, but the main issue is Microsoft put in a very small list of allowed SSDs. If Microsoft is willing to stop that annoying restriction, then a CFastExpress to NVMe adapter would work.
That's craaazy money. I paid $145 for a 2TB SSD for my PS5 about a year ago.
Microsoft really screwed the pooch with this one.
Hi Mate,
Can you tell me which one did you buy? Did you replace the existing PS5 drive or it was an external SSD that you bought? I am also looking for buy one, but reading a lot of comments about speed etc, which made me confuse which one to buy. Appreciate your help. ThanksYou cannot replace the existing PS5 SSD, it is soldered onto the motherboard.
You can add an M.2 NVMe storage drive, provided it is Gen 4 and meets the minimum 5,500 MB/s speed. You will also need a heatsink to dissipate heat.

The benchmark deal from last year:
Lexar NM790 SSD: 2TB $129, 4TB $255, 1TB $65 Delivered @ BPC Tech
That wasn't the cheapest, but many people managed to get the SSDs. While Sony recommends 5500MB/s minimum read speed, Sony does allow any PCIe gen 4 x4 SSDs. The one I've been using was initially above 5500MB/s, but Sony changed the test app to stop using zero fill test (which plenty of SSDs cheat in that type of test) so it is technically below that. Digital Foundry tested the slowest PCIe gen 4 x4 SSD and that works fine as well (that one only does 3500MB/s).
get the lexar 790,
but will need a heat sink,
works great and price is great
Everything proprietary on that console. It's infuriating. No third party wireless controllers without licensing of their shitty connection feature. Which also has made headphones that work on all other devices not work on theirs either. Console in 3rd place and making it harder and more expensive for their base. It's like someone is intentionally sabotaging them from the inside.
For me i quite like it easily removable as i have a x and a s for travel. So when i travel i simply pull it out and plug it in.
Agree, much better option on the PS5.
Keep in mind it's never RRP - this is maybe ~$10-30 below normal price via Amazon overseas.
My Xbox turns on then suddenly turns off, but my PS3 is still going strong
My PS1 sound is crackling but my Sega Master System still works great
I rather save that money and put it towards a switch 2.
That's double the price of a 2TB NVMe drive.. Baffling they decided to go the proprietary route when it doesn't even have a speed advantage.
