No-Doz Awakeners Caffeine Tablets 24 Pack $3.99 (in-Store or Click and Collect Only) @ Chemist Warehouse

150

17c Per Tablet, works out cheaper than the 100pk. I find I’m using these instead of coffee quite a bit and find they help me stay alert well. Great way to get off the energy drinks too, one of these and a soda water does the trick if I’ve missed out on sleep or need to get though a dull day at work.

Ugh, instant flashbacks to finishing my Year 12 Physics assignment the night before it was due. The packaging has barely changed but I'm way fatter now

    • Caffeine can help with weight loss apparently. Especially if not combined with extra calories like in a milk based coffee. Not that being way fatter is necessarily a bad thing.

Not actually that much fatter, mostly lamenting my long gone youth lol

    • You got me thinking….. My sons doing year 12 physics exams next week, is this addictive?

      • +1

It's just caffeine, each pill is about a cup of coffee's worth. I guess caffeine is a bit addictive.

Apparently if you do the exam with caffeine you should study with caffeine - no idea if this is true or not, but kinda putting you into the same mental state and to assist with recall.

    100mg - groovy baby

    I prefer Trucker’s Choice

    • Life has never been the same since swapping to stimu-crank.

‘ Well, Congress is racing back to Washington to outlaw these.’

  • Great way to get off the energy drinks too,

At first I drank monster ultra whites for the caffeine.. now I feel empty if I don’t have at least two a day

Just get off the shit. Took about a month but you return to normal.

It's horrible stuff. Slowly degenerates the mind and body. Buy some of this and drink it instead.

Obviously doesn't have the sugar but it's nice and fizzy so gives the same mouth/throat sensation. Will make weaning off the energy drinks (and even beer) much easier.

FWIW, I stopped drinking coffee over a year ago. My energy levels are so much better and more linear. No more waking up super tired and crashing in the afternoons.

Did you just go cold turkey?

I saw your post and thought, ok lets do it lets skip the 3 morning coffees, i was sitting in a presentation this morning about introduction to prep (my kid starts next year) - and the only thought in my head 1 hour in was GOOD LORD IF I DO NOT GET A COFFEE I WILL FREAKING LOSE IT.

        • +1

Yep, cold turkey. The biggest part is breaking the habit of making/buying it. Everytime you beat that thought, the next time is a little less intense.

A friend of mine drinks plain hot water. I thought he was a psycho until I tried it. It's surprisingly easier not to drink coffee.

If you're really serious about changing this stuff, it's good to have a quick read on how the brain physically has connections of varying strengths. Check out neutral plasticity breaking habits.

When you get a coffee, chips, beer whatever, it strengthens that bond. When you do something new, it physically creates a new pathway. Everytime you push through an urge, it strengthens that positive connection and weakens the negative one. It's why things get easier the more you push through a barrier. So tough it out for 2 or 3 weeks and your be fine after that.

If it was me I would gradually reduce and wean off to minimise headaches and rage. But then again @TheJoker has done this successfully so I guess it's possible. And since I'm posting deals for caffeine tablets I'm probably not the best role model. You can also cut the No-Doz tabs in half or quarters, so that would help with weaning if you don't want to try cold turkey. Also consider that the energy drinks have taurine, ginseng, b vitamins, so it may be a harder adjustment than quitting coffee or just plain caffeine. Having a non caffeinated sparkling drink might help with the cravings as well.

          • @morse: Shoulda mentioned I also have preworkout like 5 days a week (I do lift decently heavy though)

Big Bed hates this one simple trick!

  • yikes

  • I use these: https://au.iherb.com/pr/allmax-essentials-caffeine-200-mg-10…

Works out to 6 cents per 100mg

There is an even cheaper option but I can't comment on the quality as I haven't used: https://au.iherb.com/pr/evlution-nutrition-caffeine-200-mg-1…

Works out to 4.1 cents per 100mg

Obviously shipping will likely kill it but a good add on if you are already making an order.

  • You can always get caffeine powder from ebay and they work out to about 3 cents per 100mg.
