Fetch Mini 4K Gen 5 2024 $119 (Was $149) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-Store) @ The Good Guys

60

Not ATL like the refurb units last year but good price for a new retail 4K box. IMO better than Hubble. Great for the kids coming up on school holidays at Xmas. Not sure if student beans still do TGG promo code as well???

I have two of the newer mighty and mini with no lag or performance issues with latest update but others with older boxes have lag issues apparently

It's seriously time for a refresh of the Fetch lineup, with an SSD in the Mighty.

SSD's generally aren't used in PVRs because there would be little benefit in terms of response times (you are recording and watching stuff in real time) and they generally aren't as robust for constant read write operations.

  • IMO better than Hubble

That's a low bar. At that price, unless you want specific features, I'd be looking to spend a bit more for a Google or Apple device.

While a different model, the Fetch device from Telstra is absolute garbage.

    • The Hubbl is much better regardless. Both junkware but the Mini is a miserable mongrel of a thing. Avoid.

  • I got this frimn tesltra, It is a very poor performance box. exteremly laggy switching apps, loading. It's ok if free, would not pay for it.

Isnt that the old version that they give out?

No PVR functionality on the Mini. Seriously what’s the point. Just get an Apple TV or even Fire Stick on Blackfriday.

    • The point, which may not meet your use-case, is that it can be paired with an existing Fetch Mighty.

      • Crazy they don’t just release an app for tvOS and Android TV that connects to a Mighty.

        • Mine encodes everything chapter marks ads for auto skip and moves the recordings to Plex/ShieldTV.

Their app wouldn't be much good anyway. And you can already access recordings via DLNA.

As everything can be streamed from whatever app, what even is the point of a PVR.

Not everyone wants or needs a PVR.

My mother and my kids are still quite happy with their (ancient) Vodafone TV boxes. Which I should probably upgrade tbh.

      • I like PVR You can fast forward the ads. The free to air streaming apps are full of annoying ads

These steaming piles of crap are not even worth $0. The interface and remote are so terrible I cry every time I use it (Telstra TV shutdown victim). If Hamas dropped these Fetch mini boxes on Israel the war would be over within 24 hours.

  • For those who can't / don't want to use an antenna for FTA, Fetch have started enabling digital FTA streams:

  • This or FIreTV? What's the difference?

This or FIreTV? What's the difference?

Content Access: Fetch Mini offers a mix of free-to-air TV and streaming services, while Fire TV focuses more on streaming apps and integrates well with Amazon services.
Price: Fire TV is generally cheaper than the Fetch Mini Gen 5.
TV Tuner: Fetch Mini includes a TV tuner for free-to-air channels, which Fire TV lacks.
Voice Control: Fire TV includes Alexa voice control, which can be a significant advantage if you use other Amazon devices.

        Thank you, that's really helpful!

  • It appears that this may be a different model to the Telstra Fetch but it would take some convincing to get me to pay for one. Seriously Telstra, no My Media Hub and no local media play through the side USB. Does this model have those features?

  • Actually after checking this model HY4424 is the same as what I received from Telstra. Please correct me if I am wrong but it has no My Media Hub and no local USB play.

  • What's the best device for a dedicated plex server? I have been using my laptop but I would rather not have it on all the time killing the battery and I find the 500GB drive limited. Would prefer something with low power usage and large storage or the ability to attach one or more of my many hard drives. Also some way to move media files to it easily without having to ferry a hard drive between my laptop and this device. Am I just describing a NUC/mini PC?

      get a SFF dell optiplex/hp/ lenovo i5 8500 / 8th gen for ~$200 then can add 1x 3.5 hdd + 1x 2.5 + a nvme boot drive internally + external usb storage.

dell mini towers hold 4x3.5 i think if you want more storage/back up space, again you want 8th gen cpu minimum

these are cheapest options if u dont want to diy build your own brand new box, which would cost from ~$500 upwards.

  • Was available for $96 from Telstra up until just a few days ago due to the Telstra TV shutdown - https://www.telstra.com.au/entertainment/tv-movies/telstra-t…

I'm holding off for Amazon black friday sale on a fire stick as a replacement to the Telstra TV.
