Cheapest Wild Bird Seed in The Area from Rockingham to Dawseville, WA

I like to broadcast a few handfuls of seed out for the wild birds every so often. Unfortunately, if any "city pigeons" show up, they work like a sewing machine needle and clear it faster than the rest of the birds can have a shot.

So, looking for cheap (cheep!) seed. I don't feed every day, as don't want them dependent, but we're across from a reserve, so we can't pick & choose who lives there- lol.

Cheers!

  • Stop feeding wild birds. For multiple reasons. They don't need your help. You're just creating a smorgasbord for cats & kookaburras (flying cats) , which aren't native to your state. Getting rid of those 2 predators is better for the birds than feeding them.

EDIT: Also on topics like this , read what the experts say about it. PLUS, some of the uneaten seeds you fling around eventually become highly inflammable weeds, over time.

    I agree don’t do it.

every once in while someone in the neighbourhood starts doing it, then stops eventually but during that time unusual high amount of cockatoos around on the bins and the grass by the road. when this happens I also usually see one dead after hit by a car or one squashed on the road.

old guy said wild birds usually don’t hang around where people do. they fly around away from people and find food. when you attract a few of them with food in urban area they all come and because they aren’t used to urban areas they end up dead. this is not including people that hate them and shoot or kill animals. definitely seen it more often recently after covid.

    Don't attract cockatoo's. You'll be sorry.

    • yeah when they come around and you give them nothing because are deciding feeding them was a mistake, they get cranky and start ripping stuff apart.

also saw one the other day on a bin, saw a dog coming so it flies off straight across the road at bin lid level. they aren't stupid but because they are wild they can fly right in front of a car that won't have time to slow down.

  • Just plant appropriate area-specific natives if you want to encourage wildlife, biodiversity, and balance.
