Rude Smart Meter Installer Lol

Overheard a neighbor getting a smart meter installed. Client is elderly and lives by herself. Installer was like "someones ordered it" "I've got a work order for it". Meanwhile it seemed like they were basically getting the hard sell. Doubt it will make a difference for them. Guessing the installer has incentives to get them done? Cost from what I've read is $75 a year.

    I don't understand a word you said

The individual words are perfectly comprehendible. It's how they are formed into sentences that don't make any sense.

Nope.. no mention of eavesdropping on meter installers…

    • No mention of $75

Yeah site's about saving money, so chance someone might have their power companies try this with them.

We're with Origin Energy, and they upgraded it at (what I believe to be) no cost, they were doing a ton in the area from when I spoke with the installers. There was no charge on our bill for it, and it only took around 20 minutes (despite the 2 hour downtime specified, must cover installation anomalies).

Perhaps a similar scenario for your neighbour, but they missed the emails? I think we got two emails and an SMS as reminders.

You need to work on story telling.

  • depends who you get, some of these jokers won't take the time to tell you what they are doing, other than "gas works" "my job" "what my work order says". other blokes will take time to explain, ie. installing smart meters as part of a rollout by xyz company in the area at no cost to customers you should have received notice, but if not call your provider / my work to confirm works in your area.
some guys must be on a mission to knock them out as quick as possible and even looking at them seems to be an inconvenience and an annoyance, others blast music or are just yaking on the phone about footy, beers and more unsavory things right by your windows.

Tried getting ChatGPT to improve the OP:

I overheard a neighbor getting a smart meter installed, and it was quite the scene! The installer was telling her, “Someone’s ordered it,” and “I’ve got a work order for it.” It felt like they were really pushing her to get it, even though she’s elderly and lives alone. I’m not sure it will actually benefit her at all. I wonder if the installer has some kind of bonus for getting these installed quickly? From what I’ve read, the cost is around $75 a year. It’s all a bit confusing!

  • Never hear of having to pay $75/yr to have a smart meter installed. Perhaps OP got mixed up with a '"smart energy monitor" which is a favorite among the door-to-door sales people.

    • The $75 was explained as an average on another thread. Will also depend on the power company as a lot of variance.
