        Interesting username 👍

      • Same.

    • I dont care

    • I suspect Australia doesn't grow enough cashews to fill the local market. They're a tropical fruit, and just one nut per fruit. The fruit is really nice, but doesn't travel well so you'll unlikely see them in the shops. I've heard of only a few small orchards in Qld. I guess they'd be growable in the NT and maybe WA too, but not sure if there are any orchards there.

So…I don't think you'll see Australian grown cashews in stores…not commonly.

If it's a product Australia produces…sure…buying local as a priority is probably a responsible move.

Edit: Found an article on Australian cashews

      • That article says it all. I remember around 2009 the supermarkets used to source Australian cashews, then it became Vietnamese overnight. Still waiting for an Australian comeback.

      • Thanks agreed!

Try to buy Australian grown where possible. If not available from a country with decent food safety standards.

That feels like a Double standard.

Perhaps let’s not all use or buy anything (electronics, specialised medicines/ vaccines, entertainment, whey, video games, etc, etc) from anywhere apart from Australia - while we are at it…. That would be super easy, wouldn’t it?

And if we were to only use or buy Australian made items or goods - let’s also be prepared to pay through the nose with how higher the costs would likely be.

Goods or Items imported to Australia won’t likely be sold to consumers if it didn’t pass checks and or minimum Aus standards.

      • And in this example, I tried googling Australian Cashew and it's not readily available to buy on the internet!

      • Australian grown I said. Ok if you have a different view, but this can be expeessed in a nicer way too.

      • Support oz jobs if it doesn't hurt the wallet too much

      • That feels like a Double standard.

        Food != electronics IMO.

I don't care if my electronics come from China but I aint eating garlic grown there.

Goods or Items imported to Australia won’t likely be sold to consumers if it didn’t pass checks and or minimum Aus standards.

What checks are you speaking of? Do Australian officials go to Chinese farms and watch what they do?

My favorite part about Aussie grown and farmers market is when cutting the middleman out makes the produce more expensive!

      • You aren't buying cucumbers from the same guy that sells at your local farmers market as the one that sells to Woolies at next to zero, or negative profit.

Honestly, posting every single "$10 Cashews" deal, which seems to be at least once a month, is starting to get a little stale.

Is this the current Big Man Tyrone meme? Because I missed the memo.

    • Then just ignore it, other may benefit. What's the big deal.

Tough crowd. Clearly OzB loves a cashew.

Do ozb only eat cashews? Dont think i remember deals for other types of nuts

        • +1

No other nuts. Just cashews with jerky.

    • now you can hide cashew deals

  • so, from the usual 'stupid' price back to an almost normal price, how gracious of them.

    • What's a normal price? That's $13.33 a kilo…that seems cheap for cashews even prior to covid.

Granted…these bags of salted cashews are frequently on sale now…Coles, Woolworths, Aldi…all have a similar product and discount regularly.

  • Everybody should have listened to Paulina Hanson to stop the importation of food. You will walk into a Supermarket and nothing will be Australia made.

    • It's not how it works as import is not the root issue, export is where 20K tones are exported every year for higher profits, leaving Australian's with shortage. where do you think how businesses will fill these shortages.

  • i'd love some for Almonds & walnuts
