$16 cheaper than the last deal, N97 and DDR5 based (faster than the N100 ones) tiny computer. Lotsa power in the palm of your hand.

Edit: $16 cheaper but comes with 256GB less storage. So not really much of a deal.

seeing 256gb ssd instead of 512?

    • Damn, I somehow missed that. I used the page from the last deal, I'm guessing that's why the price dropped.

Well that's disappointing. Thanks for pointing it out.

    • Previous deal had nvme drive too I think. This is now sata, far slower.

  • So N97 performs better than N100, say on game emulators?

  • Can the ssd be upgraded, or is it inbuilt?

It is upgradable with m.2 2242 or 2230 (need an adaptor) drives. It comes with a msata, but can change to nvme, for example WD SN740 will work with an 2230 to 2242 adaptor.

I got one of the previous GMKTec devices, the drivers are a big problem, they don't exist, which means I couldn't reinstall Windows safely as Microsoft wouldn't let me without the drivers.

What they provide on their quota limited Google Drive are driver scripts that don't function outside of the self installing scripts.

I couldn't even get their provided OS image to work with their instructions or imaging myself.

I do believe I'd be able to install a safe Windows onto a different computer, install drivers via their scripts either on that computer or on the NUC after moving the NVMe back, but by that point I was fed up with how many days of effort I had already spent on the thing.

I was able to install Debian fine, but unlike my other Debian computers, it's a bit buggy. Honestly the price difference of GMKTec versus Beelink isn't worth it at all.

Go with Beelink for a little more.

  • The deal is back up by the way. Both the 256gb and 512gb versions.
