Need Replacement Hose for Air Compressor

Hi all, I've got an air compressor someone gave me probably 15+ years ago which was still going strong - Masterflow mf-1040.

Recently however when I went to use it to pump up a punctured tyre (in order to drive to the tyre shop), the coil/hose snapped as I was connecting it all up (I guess the many summer highs being in the boot has weakened the hose over time)

In any case, I think the unit itself has been great and I'd still like to use it by replacing the coil but not sure whats a suitable replacement.

According to the website (which is locked down now… I used Web archive to find this spec), the hose is :

AH40-M
Length: 16 Feet / 5 meters
Diameter: I.D. / O.D. 5 mm /8mm
Type: Coil
Material: PU
Coupling 1: Type Q / Nitto Japan Coupler
Coupling 2: EZ Twist Air Chuck
Working Pressure: 150psi. @ 70°
Burst Pressure: 300psi.
Temperature Range: -68° F + 176°F (-20c to +80°C)

Can someone recommend or guide me what would be a suitable replacement? I see plenty of hoses/coils on amazon/eBay but not sure if there's something specific I need to look out for, to ensure it's a suitable fit (if the connectors are right and pressure)

…. Or alternatively should I just replace with the OzBargain favourite air compressor the next time it goes on sale?

Thanks

Sydney tools or similar stores will stock compressor hoses. They're all about the same for home jobs.

Take the hose to a tool shop. Find one with the same fitting, assuming they used one of the standard size fittings. You may need an adaptor.

If the yellow hose snapped you can just unscrew the nut, cut the broken end off, push the new end back onto nipple and screw your nut up tight.

Check fittings to see if they can be removed easily. Buy another coiled hose the correct size.even if fittings a different. Remove fittings from new hose or just cut hose to remove and then connect your original fittings. The coiled hoses have a limited life. I had a couple of new ones here that just crumbled sitting in the cupboard for years.

Take the hose to Enzed or Pirtek. They maybe able to help.

Looks like Masterflow are opening in OZ.

  • If it's the hose with spring coil fixings on the end, just fix it.If the hose is stuffed get a proper hose type with fittings from the usual big h/ware stores. This time store the hose away from direct UV.

    Negged? Oh dear.>Guess who

PS if the rest of the hose is not brittle(as per the snapped bit, which cops all the kinks ) all you need is 2 human wrists, half a cup of hot water and 3 mins focus. Neg away

    • not me, i can assure you.

I might try the suggestion above first to unscrew the nut and put it where it snapped off (after trimming it). Unfortunately it snapped abot a third in so it means i've lost a third which i could probably live with.

But to your point, how would i fix it? (its the hose that has snapped but it does have the spring coil type fittings on the end).

also , i dont keep the hose in direct UV light. its actually in a black bag and that stays in the boot of the car. It is very old so its seen lots of hot and cold temperatures - no less than 12-15 summers/winters im sure.

"IF!" it's worth fixing, or for future reference>Get the spring part off by gripping securely with pliers (don't squash or deform it) or strong mitts. Turn it whichever directions works with the spring direction to wind it up & off. (ACW I think?)
Then it needs to be put back on the hose you are going to reattach it to, above the barb the hose goes on. Soak the end section of hose in hot water, till it's pliable.Slip hose on barb.Wind the coil back down the opposite way you wound it off, until the coil end bottoms out against the fitting. If the hose 'is' dicked. Either get the std hose type next time and/or store appropriately. A lot of the plastic crap from OS can't hack UV at all.Avoid.
Bunnings has plenty of pre-made air hoses with Nitto fittings. When the compressor you have dies, that new hose will still be OK to use on another brand going fwd.Nitto is pretty common.
