Beauty Products Naming - Embryolisse etc

I've seen advertising in the CBD recently for "Laboratoires Embryolisse Smart-Multi-Tasking Skincare"… has prompted some thinking on my part… This is more intended as a curious reflection on modern society than a rant, but would love to hear other opinions.

Forget the usual hubris and marketing spin - "multi-tasking" is taking it a bit far - but surely the product name itself is a little ridiculous. A quick Google Translate search tells me Lisse is French for smooth… so there's a product being advertised called "Laboratory Embryo Smooth"

Is that actually an aspirational target? Am I the only one that thinks the naming of products has gone well beyond 'rational'?

What else have you seen around?

Why is it that people (mainly women) are so insecure about their looks they want to change their appearance?
False eyelashes, dying hair, breast reduction/enlargement, injecting fillers/botox, makeup, wigs/toupée, body implants

If its to attract a partner i can tell you all the other half wants is love, loyalty and affection and someone to be relaxed around in their presence.
    The rest is totally unnecessary.

    • Sounds like you haven’t had the (dis)pleasure of working with rich profanities or their trophy wives.

    • If you don’t know why women in particular are insecure about their looks then you have managed to miss the last 35 or so years of feminist writings. Maybe start with ‘the beauty myth’ and go from there. Or even ‘the second sex’ from 70 years ago.

    • Why is it that people (mainly men) are so insecure about their looks they want to change their appearance?
The obsession with being a gym bro, taking steroids, being mean to others who aren't the same physique etc.

You reckon even A-lister celebs don't get body shammed etc? Teenagers don't get bullied for looking a certain way?

I don't know of any guys trying to impress another guy but women are trying to impress women because not one guy on earth has ever said you look good in them eyelashes
        Its women fighting women
A guy can wear the same outfit and not one guy is going to complain but if a women wears the same thing time and time again its other women commenting on their outfits not the men
        feminism is women fighting women
Is it so wrong for a woman to want to be a housewife and not go to work?

        • I dont think your comments support the argument you think your comments support.

Firstly, does it matter that women want to impress women? Or is it only legitimate if they want to impress men?

Secondly, why do you think women have this attitude? Do you think they are born with it or perhaps is something do to with they way society operates?

Thirdly, feminism is not about wearing false eyelashes. To the extent feminism talks about this, its to make the point you are making - why is it that women feel they need to wear false eyelashes? So you are actually agreeing with feminism. Feminists also say that women have the right to stay at home if they wish, but they also have the right to be educated and have the choice not to stay at home or stay at home. And if a woman is staying at home because their husband/male partner refuses to stay at home, then that is a problem.

So, overall, your comment is actually asking the same questions that feminist writing / studies ask. Well done; you are trying to break out of the patriarchy. I realise you are trying to troll, but its amusing when your trolling is so bad that you are unintentionally supporting the people you are trying to troll. Takes a real skill to do that.

        • I don't know of any guys trying to impress another guy

So it's either to impress or nothing? Couldn't be due to competition, trying to be the most 'alpha' guy, out doing others.

A guy isn't going to comment about the women being fat or hot? You seem very sheltered if you're serious.
