I've just made a purchase on AliExpress and noticed that the transaction on my credit card account is being settled in Singapore.
Does anyone know if paying in USD is still the best option for Australian shoppers?

Chances are if you set AliExpress to AUD the rate will be out of whack. If you set to USD to let PayPal do the conversion the rate will definitely be out of whack and you'll pay more.
Set to USD and set your card to bill in USD during PayPal checkout and you'll get the current MasterCard/VISA rate which will work better only if your card doesn't charge conversion fees.
I think what the op is saying is because it's being charged as Alie SG would it be cheaper again to have Alie charge SGD rather than USD. Basically what it is with the normal store but this is now converted over in SG
No. AliExpress trade in USD.
There you go Clear is the AliE man so I would trust him. Just keep it in USD and ignore which country it charges from
@knobbs: There's just a lot of business and tax reasons to have the payment processing through a Singapore registered entity than China or Australia.
USD is the only option, unless you want to pay what seems like 3%+ difference. I havent worked it out but its quite a big difference in prices.
How much you pay in USD and how much AUD taken from your card?
