Hey y'all, so currently my dad is paying Telstra $89 for 25mbp/s down on this plan:
I found out there's tons of better deals all over, and most comments I read were saying I should give Telstra a call and tell them I'm thinking about switching, they'll offer me a deal or at least try to be competitive. Well that didn't happen at all. I first started the call by saying our plan seems quite expensive for the speed we get. For $89, other companies offer 100mbp/s. And the speed we get can be had for 20-30 dollars cheaper elsewhere. The bloke said "Telstra has the most reliable Internet in Australia, you're paying for the best coverage and security", I told him that's not really worth the extra 30 dollars to me.
At this point I was hoping he'd offer me something, but instead he said "Here's what I can do, I can upgrade you're current internet to 100mbp/s, that's 4x faster for only 110 dollars". I had to pull out the big guns and told him my dad's been a customer for over 20 years, he's had Telstra internet for over 10. Isn't there anything you can do? And he offered to knock $10 off the $110 plan for like 3 months.
I found this great Telstra deal, which knocks $15 dollars off the $110 plan for the first 6 months, but it's for new users only. Maybe I'm beating a dead horse, but I find their practices so scummy.
I want to call them up one more time before I jump ship, does anybody have any experience or tips negotiating with them? Thank you for reading.
Most Telco companies only care about new connections hence the deals for new customers/services. If they were serious about keeping you as a customer, they would have put in more effort into keeping you. How you spend your money and what you get for it means a lot these days. If your Dad does not care about his Telstra (Bigpond) email or land line connection 100% jump ship to another company. I'd recommend Leaptel or Aussie Broadband.
