How Do I Wipe a Mac Mini but Also Have It Available for Testing When Selling?

Hey, I don’t have any Mac knowledge. Selling an m1 mini to buy M4.

I know I need to remove the iCloud stuff but I was under the impression that you couldn’t format these with just a basic account for testing?

As in, buyers will want to test but I don’t really want my account all loaded up when they do it? What’s the best way to prepare for sale?

What to do before you sell, give away, trade in or recycle your Mac
Setup with username Mac mini and password=Password

  • Just turn it on and show that it works, what else needs to be tested?

I've sold and bought a lot of second hand computer parts over the years, the only thing I've ever asked to have tested was a $1k GPU. Plus I wouldn't be letting some random off Facebook into my house to begin with.

  • Take a screenshot before wiping, factory wipe it then you can show the startup initial config screen to any prospective buyers

I'd go further and start that setup again so it's ready to use on the desktop before they get there, let them reset it themselves again if they want at home.

    • Video would be better, and show serial number, if camera is good enough. Apple sns are hard to read at times.
Otherwise, but up and show it in the about mac section, so they see it working, and all the ram is there. ;)

  • Sell it NOW this week. Most Apple users are not like the geeky types and know nothing about prices. You can easily sell over priced used Apple devices to them. I sold my base spec 8GB Ram 256GB Storage M1 Mac Mini for $800 just yesterday on Gumtree after 4 years of use. And promptly ordered a new M4 Mac Mini for $815 using the Student pricing. Basically free upgrade. Do it now before every other M1 Mac Mini owner floods Gumtree and Facebook with their M1's.

Well done. There's a sucker born every minute.

      • They do not know the difference between M1, M2, M4. For them a Mac Mini is a Mac Mini. Love Apple users, they are cashed up and not too geeky with price checking all over Google. Most of the time, it's mum's and dad's wanting a Mac for their kid.
