Porting a Number When Account Names Are Different

Hi all, when I started at my company, I ported my personal number into the work Telstra account (so they pay for it).

Now I am leaving, I am trying to port my number back out (had purchased a 365 day Optus SIM), however when I went to activate (via Optus chat - the web option wouldn't allow me to continue), they said it couldn't be ported due to the account names being different and that either the Company Director would need to contact them via webchat, or I would need the name on the account with Telstra changed to mine.

Just wondering if there is an easy solution? I assume no other providers will be able to get it released without a lot of stuffing around - happy to buy a 30 day Telstra sim, or another provider if it helps. The CD has contacted their Telstra rep who has said it shouldn't be an issue and that the number should be able to be released by a port out request from another company.

Just looking for something that doesn't involve a lot of hassle/wasted time. Optus online chat were pretty useless tbh.

I did the same, ported in when I joined and ported out when I resigned. Your employer has to do the admin part on their side to release the number from their account.

  • Per comment above, when porting out of a corporate account, the company needs to do it. I've done it twice when changing employers and the person at your work who is responsible for the mobile fleet will know what to do.
