Did You Get a BYD Shark 6?

Alright, lot of controversy around Chinese cars but what I find impressive is the amount of people willing to splash their cash on a new car.

BYD is obviously coming across fairly reliable, which I guess is helping.

But I wanna know, did you order one?

2000 ordered in the first 24 hours.

  • 2000 is impressive , interesting to see how it goes

    • I’m hearing rumours it’s more like 2500 now. Which is bonkers

      • i did get an email they’re extending the $500 off for another 500 vehicles , crazy to think they’ll just smash out another 500 cars in a blink

        • Does that mean you got yourself one?

          • @dylanando: A mate sold his merc Ute which got him 31k and preordered this - I’m on the fence

            • @Fayble1212: I’m now up to watching non English speaking videos of the Ute. It might be worth the trigger, don’t want to miss out on the $500 right?

              • +1

@dylanando: Is it a $500 accessory credit or a staggering 0.86% cash discount before ORC?

            • +1

              @Fayble1212: You mean Nissan

        • They sold 685k cars in the last quarter alone. I think they'll be ok.

They're currently getting smashed by US and EU tariffs as they try to protect their car industries, if those weren't there we probably wouldn't get so many cars here (nor at the good prices).

  • No

  • Tried to order one but the website was getting borked so hard I gave up. I think it was fate telling me to hang back this time and not be the Guinea pig again. :D

    • might be working now ;)

  • 790kg payload would normally mean no FBT exemption for limited private usage; but early adopters will be covered under the PHEV FBT exemption to 1-Apr-2025

  • Looks alright, like a toy car come to life.

  • +1

Side note, 2000 in the first year would be sales figures the Kia Tasman should be aspiring to

    • When you put it like that, Byd shark sales are insane

    • looking at it on paper, if they meet that target they should count themselves lucky

      • looking at it on paper

The only way to look at one

        • +1

Just make sure the paper is face down

  • No

  • interested but really want to take it for a test drive first. it's going to cut it close to wait until there's one we can put our hands on and make the PHEV cut off. i wonder how many who put down a refundable deposit is in the same boat

  • I'd be interested, but also would want to take it for a drive first and see what everything feels like before I drop 60k on a new car.

  • A relative did. Was looking for an old Paj replacement secondhand, but not much decent around under $50k. Suits his use case perfectly. I'd be keen if they bring out Cab-chassis.
It looks to me that there's plenty open to something a little more creative than the current ToyForMit offerings. With around $120M turnover snapped up from them in the last few days I'll be interested to see what FUD they can find to whinge about.
Kodak and Nokia seemed to go without a whimper. I'm really enjoying watching this disruption and the death groans of legacy auto. Does that make me a bad person? 🤔

    Shucks… I missed out.. I'm truly shattered… how will I sleep ever again….

  • cant even test drive it, its reviews on 4x4 capabilities are garbage

    • +1

Good enough for 99% of ppl unless you are doing some crazy off-road use. In that case you will certainly need some pretty hardcore mods even for the ranger or hilux.

      • remember that its marketed as an electric off road car, if it cant handle off road, then is it even suitable or fit for purpose, front wheels loose traction and the rears dont even kick in?

        • Ever seen the marketing for a RAV4 or xtrail etc? Its all about going off road in those too.

          • @Euphemistic: yeah but everyone knows they're not actually 4x4 cars but still capable

            • @johnfuller: I doubt anyone buying a Shark will be aiming to do more than a RAV4 is capable of until they are well proven.

              • @Euphemistic: those that buy a rav4 know they are not off-road vehicles

                • @johnfuller: Those that buy the Shark know they arent built for outback treks or rock hopping.

                  • @Euphemistic: you are saying the same about the tesla cybertruck? its capable of handling 4x4 but not promoted as such, why isnt the same applied here?

                    • @johnfuller: Ive said nothing about the Deplorean. Capable of stuff. Not as capable as it would seem.

People who want serious 4x4 options will get tried and true vehicles. If you 'dabble' then a Shark will likely do the job.

  • What’s the tentative initial delivery date for the shark6?
Reason is, I’m checking this site regularly for sea lion 7, but neither BYD sea lion or shark are on it
    https://www.rover.infrastructure.gov.au/PublishedApprovals/V…
However other non released EVs are there such as leapmotor C10, Zeekr, etc.

TLDR: this may take a long time before it is delivered

  • I got the BYO

  • The service costs are now online. The 48 months interval is a whopping $1727 for a single service. 5 year service works out to be $3955. Anybody else think that's a bit nuts?

They say the $1000 down payment is refundable, should I cancel?

The first deliveries are expected Jan 2025

    • EVs all being cheap to service appears to be a myth if these figures are accurate.

    • +1

sounds they expect people to sell after 3 years.

surely you could take that to an independent mechanic for less at that point. most of the service items are bog standards
