OnePlus 7T Pro Stopped Working on 4G with Optus – Any Solutions?

Hi everyone, I have an urgent question!

I'm using a OnePlus 7T Pro with Optus as my carrier, and since all networks have now shut down 3G, I assumed my phone would still work with 4G, as it always displayed a 4G connection. However, today it suddenly stopped working entirely—not only on Optus but also with Telstra SIM cards. I planned to keep using this phone until next year for certain reasons, so this issue is really unexpected.

Has anyone else experienced something similar, or does anyone know a solution? Would updating to custom firmware potentially fix this? I'd really appreciate any help.

I found a solution for mine. It involved a trip to Big W.

the telco blocks your phone based on the IMEI number. There is no easy way to change the phone's IMEI, even with a custom firmware the IMEI number is basically permanent.

You could try switching to Telstra and see if you can continue getting service

    • Thank you for your reply. I tried with Telstra SIM card but the same :(

      • Voda bro, voda… try try try borrow sim from friends

    • Yep saw reddit about voda

  • Another person whose next phone won't be a OnePlus. If they have any sense.

  • I've got a OnePlus 8T and same issue, it's because the phones might be able to use 4G/5G but they rely on 3G to make emergency calls. (this is something baked into the phone tiself at manufacturing)

You can hack your phone to enable VoLTE and VoWi-Fi but unfortunately because the phones are hardcoded to use 3G for emergency calls, the telcos are blacklisting phones that can't make emergency calls over 4G/5G.

Here's the legal direction specifically outlining that Telcos can terminate service to phones they can't make emergency calls.

FYI I did hack my phone to enable VoLTE/Wifi and it didn't help, service was still cut.

I successfully used this on my OnePlus 7T.
