Got 42500 Singapore Krisflyer Miles about to Expire. Need Some Last Minute Inspiration?

Looking for ideas on how to use up 42 500 points quickly (expire Oct). Could top up to bring it up to 50k or similar (i think…if it's quick).

Found Krisflyer availability shocking post covid…

Any inspirational uses of points? and best time of year (I like low/shoulder seasons) for any location.

Cheers

  • What’s the fee to extend the expiration date?

That would be about $51 USD to extend the miles (rounded up) or 5,100 miles.

      • Only get one shot…and I have already done it.

  • You can upgrade from a full economy flexi fare to a premium economy return flight to Singapore (well, thats 45,000 miles).

Last resort you could transfer to Velocity at the fairly average exchange rate, on the basis that 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

    • Yeah, 1.55: 1 (35% loss) I think… and the KF's were premium in the first place.

I originally got them for NZ code share… which has never resumed.

Might book a one way to Thailand or Singapore (around 56k all up I think).

Maybe in March April - But it will be hot as I think.

Only because I'd then look at going from Singapore to Japan for the snow season. Should be a cheap launch point.

  • Can I somehow convert to gift cards? Looks like if I transfer to Velocity, I could potentially get $300 in giftcards?

Also, the Krisflyer search engine for Codeshare flights is an absolute shocker (need to do 3 searches - SQ/ Star/ Other) for each date.
No calendar view. So 3 different searches week by week!

    Must be an easier way?

Award Hacker is a better search tool, but I can't find those flights on the KF page.

  • OP did you miss this post? Would've been a good way to plan some trips.

    • Yeah, I saw it (have a comment in the thread), but couldn't find anything. Was trying super hard for an NZ snow run at that time. But Singapore only have a Codeshare with Virgin these days, and only release economy seats.
NZ was 19500 points +$300 taxes each way. For $600 might as well just get a cash ticket.
Should have just booked a default Singapore flight.

Buy something from here, better than nothing. Select the home delivery international filter. Shipping is very expensive but seems to be payable in points.

Any idea if any of these are supported by health funds?

We are with AIA and they offer you extra perks for exercise apparently (and Ive been on the move non stop for weeks). So might get some value out of a fitness tracker.

      • No idea but I'd expect that they would prefer expensive ones like Apple watches.

        • Probably right! Any insight into the watches you linked.

My weeks activity is a few km bike riding, swimming laps (indoor pool), few kms of kayaking at sea, kiteboarding.
