  • Thanks for spotting this deal.

I got some from Amazon and can't say I like cask strength. I've only drunk it once so far, but I'm going to have to figure out if there's a way to enjoy it before getting more.

I love the smokiness of Lagavulin 16 but with this it's hardly discernable because it's overwhelmed with alcohol burn. I did include a few drops of water.

That's my first impression, I'll keep trying.

After adding water let it sit for 20mins, a lot of bottles need some time to open up especially on the neck pour.

If you've taken some liquid out of the bottle maybe try coming back to it after a few days or weeks. IMO the whole 'neckpour is tight, the rest is just right' mantra is true for whisky, especially the higher ABV ones.

      • Couldn't agree more. I've jumped on the whisky bandwagon the past month or so, and just about every bottle has been very lacklustre for the first pour or two - even after letting it sit for 15+mins while I clean up the kitchen.

sherry finish laph had hardly any sherry notes - now my favourite in the cupboard
that cheaper bottle from Dan's tasted like spicy water - still thin but has a much more interesting, fruity profile
this laga didn't taste like anything but petrol - haven't come back to this one yet but hoping it opens up a bit too

Yeah pretty much the same, at this price i'd pay the extra $30 for 16 or A'bandah if you really want cask strength.

That said, still keen to try the 2023 one if it comes up again as interested to see what maturing in Don Julio Añejo tequila casks does for it.

    • Thanks for the tips everyone, I'm still a newbie at whiskey.

      • +2

Just add more water. That's pretty much what all other whisky is, watered down to 40%

    • if only there was something that existed that could somehow dilute the drink similar to the Lagavulin 16 you already know

  • Just a suggestion, set up a camelcamelcamel price alert for those Amazon whiskey deals.
These will pop up quite often, including this $99 lag12, the $65 dal16, and the $99 sig19.
Till now I have purchased more than 3 bottles each, ccc alert pops up quite every now and then.

    • It does work does it? I checked it recently and it didn't seem to be monitoring properly: https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0C69XSLRR

Edit: Just realised it's because it's out of stock. Shame it doesn't show the history though.

      • +1

It works quite well, just "add Amazon price watch" and input a price like $100, ccc will just email an alert when the item is back in stock.
However those have always been back order, so need a few weeks of wait.

    • Which one are you referring to with dal16? Seems a good price for 16 year old.

This one, these names are too hard to remember.
This tastes seriously good for $65 as well.

        • Thanks!
          Kept monitoring this.
          Was always unavailable.
          Scored one.

        • Available now, no back order

      • +1

Also, this is the one that pops up most often as well, it is actually available for back order right now……

  • Ron Swanson approved 👍🏼
