This game is the classic version from 2005 and it matches previous lowest price on Steam.

The main reason I posted this was because of the PC mod called: Resident Evil 4 HD Project. It is probably (no exaggeration) the finest and most professionally made mod in the history of modding. Also extremely easy to install, just download and click a button, it does the rest.

The update and enhancement to the graphics this mod delivers is truly stunning and (no joke) has to be seen to be believed, please check out this short 3rd party YouTube video (above) to see for yourself and comparison pictures below:

The results of their work (just 2 men!), clearly matches (and even surpasses) the fruit of a much larger force of people and I think that alone should be saluted, but also the level of dedication and love put into this mod and what it actually achieves, is really astonishing imo. Nothing was sparred and they went full gangbusters, in a way that developers never do in regards to HD enhancements of their own games.

I know that RE4 Remake is very popular and well received, but this original game offers a very different experience, both in style of gameplay and story and atmosphere. As good as the Remake looks, this is the OG game, with all it's quirks, story and cheesy goodness still intact and some folks still prefer it to the remake version for these reasons.

And now you can enjoy this classic with all the epic HD beatification done via the this amazing mod, and it's free! But they do take donations.

Bonus is, that despite the many graphical enhancements of the mod, it stills runs on a Potato PC 🥔 (thanks @formulated 👍) :

  • Processor: Intel® CoreTM 2 Quad 2,7 GHz or higher, AMD PhenomTM II X4 3 GHz or higher
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Video Card RAM: 2GB (minimum)

    As someone who has 100% the 2023 remake, I would say just get that instead. This would be good for nostalgia. Ashley is still annoying as ever!

    Just spend more and get the 2023 remake. I have played this game on Nintendo Wii (great with the Wii controllers) and have this 2005 version in my Steam library, but I don't feel like playing it knowing the 2023 remake is available, with better graphics and equally very good game play. Was initially excited when seeing this price $7.48 thinking it is for the 2023 version, but no :(

    Amazing what a team of two can still do.

    Got the same feels from playing Hollow Knight, which was put together by a team of three in Adelaide. Just inspiring to see that it is possible for small teams to acheive things like this.

    I have the game on Steam already (and probably last finished 15+ years ago on a console) but appreciate the info on the mod as I was unaware. Now if we can only get a PC port of Code Veronica and for it to get the same treatment as this.

    This game is still great fun without the HD mod. Right before the 2023 Remake release, I 100% the game on both the Switch and PS4 totalling 7 playthroughs despite having had hundreds of hours in it already years ago.

    The Remake doesn't replace this.

      You're so right👍 the remake can't replace this classic, it's a totally different game and I'm very glad Capcom did not de-list this game (In fact they even acknowledged and promoted it) like so many other scumbag companies do, taking away people's ability to choose the one the prefer.

      Ubisoft recently did this with Horizon Zero Dawn and RockStar has done it with the GTA HD Trilogy as well as Max Payne. It's purely corporate greed and disrespect/hate towards their customers.

        About delisting and taking away game from gamers, the one I still haven't fully let go of is Warcraft 3. That was total betrayal. War3 was my favourite RTS of all time.

    the original re4 is legend, I've played 5&6 afterwards and find them not as enjoyable as 4, maybe because in 4 you only play as Leon and the game progress is linear.
