Final sign-ups close Thursday 21st Nov 1159pm.

Update 21 Nov
Train strikes are cancelled, full steam ahead with this!

Update 19 Nov
If the train strikes go ahead, I'll have to change the plans. I'll see whether the industrial action is cancelled on Friday morning and go from there.

  • I’m interested, before Nov 4 please :) Hai Au sounds great, thanks for organising

Edited - never mind, just saw the date, I wont’t be able to make it :( . Have fun!

    • Ah, if enough people want it earlier I can try move, just worried its short notice :(

  • +1

FYI They are not that cheap anymore…when was the last time you went there?

  • +2

i get takeaway here quite often when craving viet and as John mentioned above, they are definitely not cheap anymore!

  • 😭 open to recommendations around if you got them?

  • TK Something has a buffet for $39.50 on Tuesdays. Main highlight there is their creme brulees.

    • Yes I’m keen for TK something or hot pot palace AYCE - both within budget

      • I thought to vary it up from BBQ seeing as there are some for the meetups already, and TK can't come within budget on a weekend :(

  • I have added this to the list of events. All those attending please click on Register button to register for this event

As it's in Cabramatta, surprised it's not a Vietnamese restaurant that's been chosen.

  • +1

Out of curiosity how many have to register for this event to go ahead?

    • +1

Needs 10 people - I'll update on the body

  • +1

All events are gone, so will be coming to this one. A bit far from my house.
Surprised it's not a Vietnamese restaurant. But Thai is also good.

    • +1

I'm open if anyone has recommendations for Vietnamese restaurants that can cater for us - please share, we aren't locked into the current place yet. @crazyboy @jiayijames

      • I don't have any suggestions to be honest. Thai is good for me.
Is this event going ahead as we haven't reached 10 people yet?

        • +1

I'll cut off on the 16th Nov and evaluate then :)

          • @dinted: Looks like 10 people have already registered and we could be 20 people by the time registration closes.

            • @crazyboy: Awesome - looks like the event will definitely go ahead. I'll reach out to them for booking and if they need any deposits etc.

    Registered!

  • I looked at the menu, wondering if ordering our own dishes would be a better choice since there is so much variety. $45 is a decent deal for whatever dishes you like. The banquet is pretty basic, in my opinion, as being Thai. What do you guys think?
    Here is the menu https://www.zaapbychang.com.au/dinner-menu?pgid=lp7tmdf1-c50…

Great thought - lets look at where the numbers fall this weekend and maybe we can pick some dishes from there @ozshopus

      • +1

I think it's best to order our own dishes but need to keep track of how much each person spends to make sure it does not exceed the $45 limit.:P

  • Wondering if anyone might be down for a late Yum Cha lunch (around 2pm) at Vinh Phat or Fortune8 instead?

    • Great idea but I can't make it earlier sorry 😭 maybe next year

  • Hi all,

Now that we have 10+ signups, I was looking at restaurant options again and wanted to get your opinion on changing to "Com Ga Ba Nga Hoi An Sydney". Can get some special Vietnamese chicken dishes in a combo set, looks more bang for your buck? https://maps.app.goo.gl/xFvYB5NHHwCVAMJC9

I would go with Thai restaurant as chosen above, their reviews are really good and ambience is great as well.

      • +1

Ok, I'll go ahead with this. I've asked restaurant for a la carte (cc @ozshopus)

  • Registered!

  • I'm in!

  • Just registered, sorry last minutes.!

  • +1

@Dinted - who needs trains, just walk there - you need to burn off the AYCE.

    • +2

      oh no :'''( HAHA

  • The trains are on strike, but the buses are still working. I think people should be able to get there if using buses.
Are there many people using public transport?

    • not familiar with the area - is there easy parking?

      • No idea. If I can find a parking and have to walk 5-10 mins, I would be fine.
That's how it is in most parts of Sydney anyway.

    • I need to take train. Not sure how to travel there by bus from Ashfield

  • I'm from Northern Beaches.
I was going to catch B1 bus and train…could be even more difficult on the way back after dinner..probably not many buses???

  • +1

@dinted Dunno what you did, but well done on getting the trains back running this weekend.

    • +3

Yeah I called up the minister and told them about our event, so they brought that into the negotiations, good to go ahead now

      • +1

That explains the 24hr train demand - we celebrating Ozbargain’s birthday all night long.
