My friend saw this over a hundred times already. Thinks he’s part of the show so he tries to sing along with the cast during the performances.

    • +17

I hope we're not sitting next to him!

      • +4

Just keep an eye out for a small Filipino guy with a karaoke mic

        • Small Filipino with a karaoke mic…. Decent chance of being a better singer than the actual performers.

    • +1

I watched it a few years ago and a pair of teenagers sitting next to me were singing along - I was so confused because I didn't realise this show was that influential, particularly as it's around the American civil war period, which is completely foreign to me, literally.

It was very annoying to have them rap along, as I'm already not great at following/understanding the lyrics in rap music…

      • The Revolutionary War period not the Civil War

    • We went to see Hamilton in Melbourne and there were 2 young boys (8-15) in front of us. I didn’t expect to see children, and even more surprised when they excitedly rapped along. I wasn’t annoyed, but rather pleased found out how popular Hamilton was (and probably still is) in pop culture!

    Handling Fee 😔

  • Any recommendations about which seats are best?

Centre of "Stalls" in the early rows? C, D, E, F, G, etc?

    • closest to the front.. as usual.

      • +2

Is that true for Lyric theatre?

Not aware of any other theatre where front row is best.

Even in places where that doesn't mean bending your neck back all show, front row seats on the far left or right edges are worse than more central seats a few rows behind.

        • +1

i wouldn't sit fromt row for hamilton - i had front row when i saw it in london on sep 8, 2022 (the night the queen died). i'd sit a minimum 4 rows back

    • +1

the show doesn't have much extra 'theatrics' to crane your neck for, so you can be up really close and still enjoy. I've been front row and it was fine. Closer is good for this gig
      . I think C-E would be a solid pick

    • +3

Usually best seats for any show are about 7 rows back as that's where they sit when mixing audio etc. I personally booked front of dress circle overhand in D6 as I'm a larger guy and want all the room I can to manspread.

    • +1

For myself I always prefer row A or B of the Dress Circle

But otherwise, for Lyric I believe Row F is where you are at Eye level with the Stage. Any forward of this and you’ll be slightly looking up.

From someone who works in theatre, Generally (and I've seen Hamilton and feel this applies too) anywhere in the stalls between the balcony overhang, and about 6-7 rows back from the front is your best bet, and then just get as close to centre as you can. Any closer and the sound will be compromised plus its harder to take in the full picture as a production as a whole. And too far back and the balcony overhang may compromise your full view and again, the sound won't be as strong.

If you prefer balcony, front row centre is also great for an unobstructed view. Generally speaking of course, the ticket price categories reflect how good the seats are..

    Great. Thank you

  • This hurts. Literally paid $450 for stalls row A About two weeks ago :(

    • Yep, I've got Wednesday week tickets and feeling the 'of course they start heavily discounting tickets' remorse
Seats adjacent to the ones I have now $100 cheaper :/

      • Yep, me too. Only a week ago. 5 tickets …

    • Who’s on the neg train and for what purpose lol?!

      • nfi :)

    • Same here. Fuming.

    • +1

Even with the discounted tickets the total cost is higher than that if you have to travel from interstate!

      • +1

Actually FWIW, I am travelling interstate.

  • +1

Incredible show, even if you couldn't give a rats about musicals or America I'd strongly recommend.

    • +4

even if you couldn't give a rats about musicals

I applied this logic to The Book Or Mormon.

If even Trey Parker and Matt Stone can't make a musical that I enjoy, I doubt I'll ever enjoy one.

      • +1

I'm not a person that cares for traditional musicals (or America), and liked Hamilton much more than Book of Mormon. It is really good.

      • +2

I'm a South Park fan but Hamilton is heaps better than Book of Mormon.

Ozbargainers care about only one thing - BARGAINS! An interest in only one out of musicals, American history and bargains is enough for me.

    • I have friends who rave about it so I thought why not give it a try for the price. I have also starting getting into musicals more as of late so I couldn't go past this price!

  • it's ALIVE

  • Anyone else tried to buy tickets, but unable to get confirmation SMS?

    Ticketmaster getting OzBargained…?

    • +2

I didn't get confirmation SMS but got email confirmation straight away.

      • I didn't get confirmation SMS but got email confirmation straight away.

Same. But apparently I can't buy tickets without verifying my mobile number.

Guess I'll have to sit here and watch all the good seats slowly get bought up…

    • Been trying for 10 mins, no confirmation SMS being sent.

      • Tried with partner's phone, got an error (instead of just not getting any SMS at all, on my phone).

    Got tickets. Thanks for sharing.

  • +1

Had to give away my tickets to friends at the start of the month as I couldn't go. Managed to get amazing stall seats at more less than half the price of the old tickets. Takes the sting out of it.

  • +1

    got two tickets. cheers OP

  • +1

    picked up 2, thanks OP!

  • +1

So turns out some mobile numbers just won't ever receive the confirmation code. Weird.

Able to buy tickets in the end (using my partners phone).

    Thanks OP!

  • Can also get a good selection of tickets via lasttix lottery 2nd change offer for $75 plus fees.

How does a bargain, coupon, really good offer,
Become a promo, dropped in the middle of a forgotten
Deal website by providence, saving us a dollar,
Grow up to be a musical deal that saves my wallet?

Managed to get $70 tickets - A row in Grand Circle last week (before the offer)

Really enjoyed the musical and the view was fantastic for $70 (Thursday night performance)

For the Lyric theater - keep in mind that their "preview" of the view from your seats is a little generic and not that accurate (even though I booked a front row - the 'preview' looked like it was generated for the second or third row)

    Happy ticket hunting! :)

I was gifted tickets however tried to get out seeing Hamilton as I am generally not into musicals and dragged myself to it.

I am glad I went as this was amazing (I am into history) and watching a live action performance was an incredible experience.

The choreography must of been practised a thousand times over as they were synchronised the night perfectly (compared to the recorded US version).

Comparing it to the US version, I think the Australian version is much better with several key performances much stronger (the King, Elizabeth and Burr especially).

Best seats? I think centre row D and forward to the stage.

For parking search OzB for Wilson Harbourside Parking codes as it is only a few blocks away.

It is Disney for adults in my opinion and this particular musical is like watching a much more expensive blockbuster movie (the tickets I was given were $350 each for the same seating position as what is discounted here). The theatre was completely booked out and in general it is been running for almost a decade or so. The audience reaction was funny for the young and old were very quiet at the beginning to everyone on their feet clapping and cheering after every segment.

It’s a steal at this price for the experience and would make a perfect date night to remember.

    Bought tickets and going again.

    One more time.

Better get in if you're wanting to see this show, it leaves at the end of January 2025. Big fan of the soundtrack and been listening it for years until I finally went to watch it last month. Epic performance. Managed to snag a Dress B ticket off Tixel for $100…not the cheapest but a good bargain for that area

  • +1

Just grabbed two for date night! Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP, wife and I have been meaning to go for a while now so this was perfect!

Ended up buying 2 tickets in row P in the Stalls, which is pretty far at the back. Hopefully it’s not too bad?

  • I don’t get it, it’s American history ….

    • +1

It’s a thoroughly enjoyable and unique way of telling American history. When I first read the synopsis I had no interest. I watched it on Disney plus out of curiosity and was super impressed. I’ve heard to see it live is even better!

It’s actually a really remarkable story of growing up, war, politics love and tragedy and you learn a little bit of history, even if it is American.

    • Australians (along with the rest of the world) seem very invested in American politics so it's right up their alley lol

  • Thanks OP.

Booked - total $168 for 2 tickets including the transaction fee (wonder how Ticketmaster gets away with charging $10 for issuing digital tickets lol).

  • +1

Of course I didn't realise this deal ended last night!
If anyone knows of another way to get a discount on this, let me know!

    Happy viewing guys!

    • +1

Same here, following this comment :)

    • Got my ticket off Tixel last month for a pretty good discount, just make sure to compare with ticketmaster and see how you go :)

  • I saw a Sunday matinee that had a few standbys among the lead roles. While not as polished as the primary cast, they weren't bad and all had moments where they showed their potential.

However, there were some aspects in the performances that I suspect were deliberate creative direction choices rather than performer choices, and these changed the tone of the show and somewhat spoiled it.

The humour was overplayed and felt too flippant and self-aware, and undermined the seriousness of the story. At the other extreme, there was some literal screaming and shouting, just way over the top, that was totally jarring and wrenched you right out of the moment.
