Best Company to Upgrade to FTTP nbn

I am currently with Mate and they say if I do the "free" upgrade from FTTC to FTTP, I need to stick with them for 12 months contract. Breaking this contract will cost $300. What is the best company I can use instead to upgrade to FTTP with no contract? Or is the same for all companies since it's via NBNco?

At $300 break fee just stay where you are

I believe Leaptel/launtel may not charge it.
I know for sure abb don’t as my friend did it with them.

Just pick an ISP with a good 12 mth deal , like leaptel, and upgrade via them.

I upgraded with ABB and switched a couple months later, no break fee.

If you're not already on a contract (by my reading you'll have to go on 12 months if you take the contract?) just churn now and do the upgrade. NBN are the ones who do it for free, so every ISP should be passing that along free of charge.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Mate's practices. I had a month to month plan with them a few years back, when I signed up my home loan I found they'd left a $300 lien on my credit record, even though they'd never told me about it, it wasn't valid in the first place (I was on month to month) and they didn't remove it when I churned elsewhere.

    • Yes I don't have a contract, unless I do the upgrade with them. I was wondering which company to jump to where I didn't have to join a contract.

        Pretty much anyone besides Mate.

Leaptel have great support, no lock in and cheap pricing for the first 12 months though, they're a good choice - https://leaptel.com.au/nbn/free-fibre-upgrade/

        • Cheers, that looks good

          • @Asti: make sure to check out the referral links via ozbargain, and then add your own to the list
(randomised links via any of the recent leaptel deals)

  • I can recall launtel charged me $200 for the fiber upgrade in July 2023, maybe it wasn't free at that time

  • I upgraded to fttp with mate, locking in for 12m. Their 100/20 pricing is decent averaging out over the year, I cbfed churning ISPs. Gotta time the billing cycles, check protocols etc.

The process was good with Mate.

I moved away from iinet Home 5G. What a stark contrast, iinet is junk now, had to call them 3 times just to terminate. They kept failing to send me the postage label to return their modem, but were messaging me saying I would be charged, clowns. All 3 times I called up to cancel or get the postage thing sorted, they were trying to sell me their services. Get stuffed, send me the F'ing label, I don't want your junk services.
