Brings back a lot of memories! I remember modding one of the first ones and putting ‘dog jaw’ on infantry units.

I think we also put V2 rockets on light tanks. The game was broken after that but I think by that time we’d probably put on hundreds or hours of game time, so it was just a bit of fun.

  • How's stability?
I remember moons ago there was issues but from memory it may have been remastered since?

Some great songs across the series too, with Hell March being a beast of a track, I also like C&C Mechanical Man.

Can you play online against people with this?
    Thanks

      Only on 56K dial up.

    • Not out of the box, but you can with Gentool for CnC Generals and CnC Online for the other titles. Also can use Game Ranger.

  • Can you use a steam deck for these style games?

    • +1

Yep, have only played the orginal so far but it runs fine, playing with the touchscreen is really good.
Only issue is scrolling through the map with the trackpad or stick is too sensitive even at the lowest scroll rate setting. The scroll speed is linked to the framerate, locked it to 15fps and it works perfectly

    Original C&C/RA, not remastered though.
Wish they'd remaster RA2 or Renegade!

    • Renegade not worth remastering. Generals on the other hand.

      • Renegade not worth remastering.

Disagree. Renegade's multiplayer was epic. The single player campaign was mostly forgettable early 2000s slop-jank though.

It did get a remaster of sorts in the form of Renegade X, a free-to-play standalone remake which is still the best and only C&C multiplayer FPS. It's very much like a C&C-skinned Battlefield and it's still being regularly updated. It's had a consistent community and player base for a long time. Highly recommend it.

    • Check out Renegade X. Sometimes there's enough people online for a fun round

this may be a silly question but i have this on Origin, is it worth bothering buying again on steam? (im assuming they all run the same). Man id love RA2 to get a remaster

    • +6

Yes, purely because the steam versions have all the Origin DRM stripped out of it. Makes playing with mods and online much easier.

      • thanks. i grabbed it today, was a bit cheaper for me as i owned a couple of the games already apparently
