Great question. I'm curious to hear this too!

It is okay. But they just released an MTX with a dinosaur that has a mailbox and an auction house for $120 AUD!

I put down the crack pipe after Cataclysm. Glad to be clean for so long. Occasionally will watch YouTube clip to get a little taste, but too scared to delve back in myself.

Hey were the Acolyte quotes from the original WoW voiced by Fat Tony (Joe Mantegna), cos I sure sounded like him?
"Where shall my blood be spilled?"
      "My life for Ner'zhul!"
      "I bow to your will!"
"Once you head down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. And you get dental."
"ALL I SEE IS BLACKNESS! Oh, my hood's down."

new expansion had good reception, people were happy-ish . Does not need time commitment like it used to be, can play a few hours a week if you want … then they released the anniversary version, lots of bugs and untested shit. people got upset, then they released a $120 dollar irl moneys mount. people bought it mostly with gold they had stashed (in game gold can be converted to real money balance) .. more people are getting upset but nothing changes really.

if you haven't played since Vanilla, TBC, or anything pre-BFA really. then it's a completely different game and still very addictive and hard to leave. good luck and play something else.

      • can play a few hours a week if you want …

        Dangerous words lol

      • No point paying $20 a month to just play a few hours per week. I stopped playing it because after playing sooooo many years, buying all the expansions, i refuse to pay $240 a year to play a (now) 20year old game.
It is a VERY fun game, i love it, but still, $240 a year for a single game is too much imho

‘ Let me assure you that this is not one of those shady pyramid schemes you've been hearing about. No sir. Our model is the trapezoid!’

If it's an online seminar I don't actually have to pay attention to then I'm in.

Will go great with my $120 AUD store bought mount.

For those who don't follow wow news - Link - Blizzard just made an old mount buyable in their microtransaction shop for $120AUD ($90 USD). It has some good perks (remote access to Auction House/Market Board and Mailbox) but was previously only available in game for a substantial amount of gold and a limited time. ~300-500 hours of farming gold to buy it and it's now buyable for $120 AUD.

    • I think Blizz is short on cash?

    • How much gold was it?

      • 5M gold back in BFA which was quite a lot for the time.

    • My old guild leader spent about $500 on tokens to buy the original, can't imagine he's happy about the new one

  • Pay to win and a monthly sub

    • and also people calling it “dead” since 2008, never seen a game that makes people this salty before

Open twitch, Mute tab, leave it in the background.. and click to claim the thing anytime after the 4 hours

  • Interesting marketing strategy:

    1. Create locked content in a game with a pay-per-month model.
    2. Offer content "free" if you watch via a viewing platform which is often used as an indicator for game popularity.
    3. Generate inflated popularity of 20y/o game, encouraging new players
    4. Profit from said players and players returning to access "free" pet
