    Is this actually a good price? And is it good in general lol? My Fiance has wanted a good mixer for a while.

    I'm thinking of getting this or something similar for a Christmas present idea.

    Would love peoples thoughts on this mixer and wether it is worth the price, or if it would be better to wait for another sale etc.

    Or other similar mixers that are as good, or better for around the same price.

      I have this, parents have the Kenwood.
      Both great. But this is the "known" brand.
      Lasts a long time (25yrs easy) as there are no electronics or screens. Just a simple motor.

          Kenwood & KitchenAid both have high quality pasta attachments that are made in Italy. I use the KitchenAid ones all the time, work well

        These are words I would use to describe the Chef actually. The Kenwood Chef the VERY well known and they last decades.

    • I've been keeping an eye on mixers and I'm leaning more towards the Sunbeam Mixmaster HeatSoft stand mixer. It's around $410 and seems to do everything I could ever need it to do. And I can't justify the extra for a KitchenAid, when they essentially do the same thing - mix.

        You'll be lucky to get more than 5 years from the Sunbeam before it dies a horrible death and isn't repairable due to poor support.

        The other attachments and accessories available for KitchenAid and Kenwood are another potential draw as well.

        • I've never had a problem with Sunbeam products. I've got a meat slicer that's around 6 years old and has never skipped a beat. I've had their electric blankets that have lasted years. Probably all comes down to how you use the appliances. For the small amount of mixing I would be doing the Sunbeam will do fine.

      KitchenAid and Kenwood are the two best choices.

      KitchenAid are better quality and longer lasting with the caveat that you can only do 1.1kg of dough at a time - beyond that you'll destroy the sacrificial gear. If she's happy to always adhere to that, it'll be fine, but it was easily the most common repair when I worked on them.

      Kenwood have a bigger capacity, but they're not nearly as long lasting (or as nice looking) these days.

    • Looks like it went for $590 earlier in the year, bit less on an ebay sale earlier in the year as well. I'm in the market for a mixer too and the big thing that keeps me coming back to the kitchenaid is how repairable and re-buildable they are. There's heaps of oem and non-oem parts, and repair guides on youtube, blogs etc. And because of its popularity they'll be around for a long time. When our old Kenwood started failing and attachments broke finding replacements was extremely annoying and expensive. Working myself up to a buy once cry once moment, but I'm not there yet. If I baked more it would be a no-brainer

      I've owned a KitchenAid mixer for a year now. Multiple thoughts:

      I paid a little extra to go for the KSM70. The motor in it is a decent amount more powerful than the KSM195 (300W vs 375W).
      From day 1, it has made AWFUL noises. It has this really, really loud whirring/whining noise. It really sounded like it was on it's last legs from day 1. But what was more concerning is that it was asymmetric. It would be far noisier on one point of the rotation than the rest. Also, it would be way noisier under load. I couldn't find any examples online of a KitchenAid that sounded like mine.

      I eventually decided to send it back to them to have it checked (they come with a 5 year warranty). Support was pretty good to work with. They provide a return label, so shipping is covered (thank god, it's like 25kg all up). I put my preference down for a replacement unit. They said they checked it, found "no major fault", gave it a service and sent it back. It still has the same asymmetric whirring, but it is a smidge quieter, so at least they did something!

      Overall, I love my stand mixer. I use it all the time, way more than I thought I would. Mostly for making dough (bread dough, pasta dough, pie dough), but I often make ice cream with it too (you can make around 2L at a time). It also has some unexpected uses, like shredding meat or pulverising fruit into a paste (when you still want some texture, so a blender is out).

      If I had my time again, I would probably buy a Kenwood. I've seen deals on here for a model around $1000 that has a touchscreen with recipes, built in weighing function, built in induction cooking, and from what I've read the Kenwoods are very reliable. The KitchenAid is a no nonsense, no frills, oldschool stand mixer. But it feels like Kenwood is innovating a lot more, and you get more for the same money.

    I can't believe how bad my kitchenaid is (ksm150, same base unit as this one). Literally the worst designed kitchen appliance I have. The head bounces around like crazy, even with the set screw adjusted properly. And the motor is so underpowered it can barely knead small amounts of dough. Same issues with a friend's one too. It also randomly turns on in the middle of the night. Total garbage; they must pay for plenty of positive reviews!

      We have the ksm160 and this model for years now, both works really well. Wife loves to bake every single day and even doing dozen of cakes on a weekend for "hobby business".

    KitchenAid is very overpriced and fragile inside.
    Mine has been repaired for a broken rotor replacement three times, under warranty.

    I would go Bosch for that price with so many additional functions.

    You may damage your mixer if you making breads at home. But Bosch mixer is the one kinda okay to making dough for breads.

  • I own a bakery with commercial gear. My mixer to big for Butter cream batches (1.5 kg butter mixes) (I have 20 and 40 litre mixers.

    Never done butter cream before (Usually moc or fresh cream.

    But to buy a plus $700 unit for a single use item, that sits on the shelf and takes up valuable real-estate seems crazy.
    Been trying to buy one on FB marketplace but every one is scammers.

    Sooner or later I'll pull the pin or give up my butter cream dream.

    If it Juliette's my carrots with attachment, then great, but more $$$ for something I already have in store.
