Boost Vs Amaysim - Confusion Which to Choose

I got the boost $230 Sim pack which was expiring with $85 Cashback resulting in final amount of $145.

I currently use Amaysim $140GB plan which has got free national and international calls too. Got an offer from Amaysim directly for renewal price of $120 for 365 days also offering $190GB

Asked Boost to cancel my Sim pack as it's not yet activated and refund my amount , but the person mentioned he can't refund and it's in their T&C's

Can you please advise me is there any way I can cancel the boost Sim and refund ?

Also is boost worth paying extra $25 but getting 170gb only vs 190gb in amaysim. Didn't quite understand why is boost charging so much and still popular whereas amaysim prices are cheaper and see better offers but not many people buy.

I live and work in Melbourne CBD so mostly didn't have any issues with Amaysim network

i personally prefer Boost, but if you have no issues with Amaysim. stick with them

    • Any way to cancel the boost 365 day pack which I have already purchased 😀 Boost customer service rejected telling it's in their T&C's

give it to a friend or family member? if its in the T&CS for no cancellation, then its not possible to cancel

        • My wife has plan active. Yes would rather keep boost for myself.

But was wondering why there is much love for boost even with price difference. I know it's full Telstra network. Does that mean wider network coverage.

            @Yogi555: You answered it yourself.

Does that mean wider network coverage

@Yogi555: The Optus network covers approximately half of the land area of the Telstra Network. It's not a minor difference, it's freaking massive!
(obviously this additional coverage is almost exclusively in regional areas)

Is that additional coverage worth an additional $25. Yes, for some.

            • @ESEMCE:

The Optus network covers approximately half of the land area of the Telstra Network.

Yet there are lots of places where I can't get Telstra coverage but Amaysim works fine.

            • @ESEMCE: I switched away from Optus because I couldn't get a signal in the bathrooms at work.

I also couldn't get a signal at my parents place in the country, through most of the train stations in Melbourne and weirdly right in the middle of the CBD, but I mostly switched so I could get a signal while I pooped.

In the Melbourne CBD, typically optus is better due to more spectrum, and potentially less users.

  • Paid versus not paid, easy decision.

Don't pay until the last moment next time.

    • Yep. But it was like last day to get the $230 Sim so bought it.

      • If you have rarely expericenced hiccups with Optus network, chances are that Telstra network may let you down. It is always better to start with a short term plan with an unfamiliar network even though it claims to be the best.

  • If you cannot give or sell the Boost mobile sim card, then maybe consider porting your Amaysim number to Boost Mobile. That means not renewing Amaysim, but moving your number to Boost Mobile. Otherwise try to sell or give the Boost Mobile sim card to someone else.

    • Yes wanted to check if there is any sites or forums where I can sell it , but now decided to just keep boost instead of going through the hassle.

  • Do you actually require the extra 20gb per year?
If you don't it seems like a lot of stuffing around just to save $25.

    • It's actually 20GB extra and $25 less in Amaysim as compared to Boost.

But yes I have decided to just go with boost as it's a hassle selling the Sim without direct cancellation from boost itself

  • is there any way I can cancel the boost Sim and refund ?

    What do the T&Cs say?

    • I couldn't find cancellation policy anywhere. In their website it's just mentioned as "for cancellations please message us"

      • Tell them to show you the T&Cs that you 'supposably' agreed to?

        • Actually thought of just keeping the boost Sim instead of going through the hassle.

But genuinely wonder why so much cost for boost Sim and still people like it.

Boost is $230 without cashback and almost similar amaysim is for $149 without any offers in below deal, yet not much love for amaysim deal.

            @Yogi555:

why so much cost for boost Sim and still people like it.

It is the only other provider, other than Telstra, that gives you full access to the Telstra network.

          • @Yogi555: And Boost (also all other Telstra MVNO) allows you to make/receive VOWIFI calls for free when you are overseas. Optus and Voda dont have this feature.

    • And even in CIS I don't find anything related to return or cancellation.

  • Two different networks.

The Boost (full Telstra) $230pa is going away so everyone moved onto $300pa. At that point I'd move onto Woolworths mobile (Telstra Wholesale) $25pm with 10% off shop. I have a problem with Boost app as they send you to Telstra website and everything is kind of not joined up.

Amaysim is Optus. It was good for those who got the $200 vouchers for 3G closure. If you let your plan expire they might send you an email to offer cheap recharges.

    • For many, this may not make any real world difference and that's fine, but Telstra Wholesale is not equivalent in coverage to Full Telstra.
It's equivalent in coverage to Optus, that's why services on Telstra Wholesale are priced competitively to Optus.
This is one of those cases of getting what you pay for.

      • Makes you wonder why I specifically called out Full Telstra vs Telstra wholesale. It is like I called it out without knowing the difference.

Telstra wholesale still have better coverage than Optus. https://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Guides/who-has-th…

Plus it isn't just about coverage, it is also about reliability.

I am on all three as part of private & work phones so I'm not batting for either one, just outlining the options.
