Adobe Fresco Premium Features Now Free for All Users @ Adobe

130

Since its launch in November 2019, Adobe Fresco has revolutionized digital art, delivering 120 features in more than 50 releases and fostering a community of millions of users. Today, we’re embracing creativity for all by making Fresco completely free for all users, so anyone and everyone can discover — or rediscover — the joy of drawing and painting with the support of Adobe Fresco.

That means that over a thousand cutting-edge pixel brushes — plus the ability to import your own — are now available to everyone for free. Whether you're doodling for creative ideation or an animator creating your next character, we're thrilled to celebrate and support creators with the magic of Adobe Fresco.

  • I actually like Fresco a lot. This is a great deal.

  • +1

What is the benefit to Adobe for offering this? Will they change this to an expensive monthly subscription once they have more users of the 'free deal'.

I am assuming that Fresco is cloud based only?

    • +1

      It does say:

For now, we're excited to see what the Fresco community creates with thousands of game-changing free brushes that have been unlocked in fresh categories like dry media, letterers, charcoal, pastel, ink, multicolor, spatter, gouache, rakes, comics, special effects, and more.

So who knows. I think Adobe just want to get more iPad artists into their ecosystem. Procreate et al. are a huge threat to their future in the pro design space.

    • More data and people's work to steal to train their AI?

  • Competition! There are some incredible apps now that are very cheap in comparison to Adobes high subscription costs. Apps like procreate cost a fraction of the price of Adobe products and are viable and powerful alternatives. Schools have moved to these platforms as they are better value for money. This move keeps Adobe relevant in a very competitive space.

  • I hope you are right. I find the cost of their Creative Cloud product to be prohibitive and have found that their final perpetual version to now be too old.

If they had kept the perpetual version going, I likely would have purchased 4 or so upgrades in the meantime. For a casual user the hike just cannot be justified.

    • I'm loving the AI features, if you're like me and can't hand illustrate then the Illustrator generative AI feature is amazing, used to have to pay someone to draw parts of a design. So I'm glad I'm not stuck using Illustrator 2018 or whatever that would lack all these new features.

  • Does our very own Canva have a similar offering?

    • Canva did buy Affinity…

      • Thanks does Affinity offer their platform for free too like Fresco?

        • +2

Nope. But if you hate Adobe then Affinity is probably worth buying. Canva has said they will continue to support the lifetime licenses for affinity products, they will continue to sell them, and it's assumed they will also offer a subscription service which will have the features we expect from Adobe, so the two products (subscription and existing apps) will diverge.

  • Wait, can you put in header that it's iOS only.
