SWANN SW347-WA2 Swann Wireless Home Security Alarm System $78.85 You Save $80.15!

80

was looking for simple home alarm system, found this:
first at dicksmith $99 http://dicksmith.com.au/product/L6197/swann-wireless-home-al…
swann website $159 http://www.swann.com/s/products/view/?product=1089
but hey, ryda has it for $78.85 http://www.ryda.com.au/Swann-SW347-WA2-Swann-Wireless-Alarm-…

havent ask DS to price match it because we decided to wait (on buying)

only about 5 reviews total, but most are good.
after some research, this one cheap because:
1. no backup battery
2. two sensors only (and not sure if can add, manual says can but no more details)
3. no connection with phone line
4. packaging looks cheap
but sure it works as what they intended to

imo this should be a forum post.

You haven't actually bought the item, and it appears to be ryda's everyday price

If you plan on buying, check Bunnings - they don't list them on their website, but I picked a couple up a while back for around $70 - also if you don't mind a refurb, swannstore.com.au have them for $58.

    Couple of things to note:
There is no backup battery - but also if the alarm system is accessible, you can just unplug the power and it will shut it up - also the siren just plugs in with an audio lead, so this could also be unplugged. Also, there is only an internal siren (albeit a bloody loud one), there is no external siren/strobe light, and it doesn't look like it would be easy to add one.

It's an ok basic DIY alarm, but I'm looking to replace mine when I can.

I bought one of these from Swan for $58 and really can not stress enough this is basic.
The unit can be disabled by simply pulling out the plug or unplugging the speaker. There is no delay in triggering the alarm so it triggers as soon as you open the door….you have to put up with the siren until you can disarm it.
However, it was easy to set up and install and could be removed without damaging the property.
Really this is more of a deterrent for nervous burglars who will run at the 1st sign of an alarm.
Still, what do you really expect for the price.

Very poor alarm, no way I would install one. What's the point of it, it doesn't dial your phone and neighbours wouldn't care as it goes off everytime before you disarm it. You would better off putting a dummy on the front of your house for $10.
