I honestly don't know how Aussie distillers can run a profitable business given the prohibitive tax excise on alcohol. Each of these bottles require them to pay $31-$32 for excise which leaves them $18-$19 to cover the rest of the product (manufacture/staff/bottle/shipping).
I'm guessing for a lot of these businesses it's more of a labour of love where they enjoy what they're doing and are passionate about the products they're creating - and I'm all for that!
Gin is incredibly quick and easy to make. Turnaround time can be less than a fortnight for even small batch guys. How much profit is in a $50 bottle of gin is going to depend on a lot of things but it's there hence the gin boom. The Ukraine war and it's influence on grain prices I think would be eating into it these days though. Grain is getting expensive but so is everything I suppose.
the excise tax is a killer nathanos. But the Fed Govt - the Treasurer in particular - doesn't really care. Their view is that, when the excise tax income reduces, they know that the excise has bitten too hard. Spirits are in massive decline, but that seems to be ignored. So be it.

Ordered on Friday and received today, emailed after my order asking for it to be sent Parcel Collect via Australia Post instead of their usual carrier. Haven't tried yet.
